Chosen 01-26-2011 12:45 PM

Yeah new one, just released :1orglaugh

chaze 01-26-2011 12:46 PM

Ubuntu has been around and is awesome. I say ten years and Linux will dominate MAC and eventually take over.

Horny Joe 01-26-2011 02:05 PM

Ubuntu IS awesome... But still, I prefer Win7.

Definitely not new, im using it right now, been using it for about 5 years. Its pretty cool, you get updates every single day, and its still a little buggy, but no viruses whatsoever

Chosen 01-26-2011 02:12 PM

I prefer XP :)

id love to see it perfected...it could take on winsuck and mac...offer people a laptop/pc at a better price..with no winfag soft at all...just ubuntu and free google apps...yeah

msp 01-26-2011 03:30 PM

Windows 95 is the way to go.

Seriously though, Ubuntu has established its name in the Linux world and seems to be fairly respected. I don't know that I'd consider it on a production server yet, but for desktop, testing, etc., all good.

amateurbfs 01-26-2011 03:36 PM

New in 2004.

You should look into what MAC is built on.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-26-2011 04:47 PM

no kidding, lol.. OS X = linux kernel. I ran ubuntu for years, I've ran countless other distributions of linux since age 12, and to be honest since Windows 7, I wouldn't even think about using linux on a desktop again. Software compatibility issues are the biggest thing, sure there is something to replace most things and sure there is WINE or virtualization but lets face it, using that shit sucks compared to the real deal.

Klen 01-26-2011 05:02 PM

Once again, useless due to apps not working there.Games too.

OS X is based on BSD which is Unix, not Linux.

fatfoo 01-26-2011 06:09 PM

I have not tried it. It's great that it's free. I'm sure many people will try it.

Barry-xlovecam 01-26-2011 07:42 PM

New, Really?

sandman! 01-26-2011 07:52 PM

Linux is good for plain computers. By "plain" I mean a computer with 1 monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet card, disk drive, and a CD or DVD drive.

If you have printers, scanners, video capture, wacom tablet, dual monitor, wi-fi, Linux has problems with drivers. Those items rarely support Linux.

If you use more commercial software than open source, you wont like Linux. Most commercial software won't work on Linux.

jonnydoe 01-26-2011 08:21 PM

I found this thing called Windows 3.1 and it has big icons on a desktop and it is the shit.

Rarely? I had to check my calendar and make sure it wasn't 1997.

Never was and never will be. Mac OS X is based on Free BSD Unix.

Linux is not Unix, as its name says. And surely it's not BSD.

Horny Joe 01-27-2011 09:31 AM

The only reason why I don't use Ubuntu, is that that I have to run PS and DW via Wine, and I don't like that! But, on my 2-3 years old machine, Ubuntu is superquick and a dream to work with. And I like speed!

Indeed, people could do amazing stuff with a machine with only 48 KB of memory on board...
