Germans Don't Understand Traffic Circle

hmm, I think it is the gov's fault for being lazy or cheap .. you can't just paint some lines ,you need to elevate the circle so you cant just go straight ahead or everybody wil just take the easyiest route ...

i bet its even worse when it rains and you cant see the drawn on circle

Actually, look closely at the video, 3 things:

1) The street from the bottom has a traffic circle sign, AND a yield sign. Those two together make no sense, since in germany, a traffic circle means the traffic circle has the right of way, the yield gives the car coming from the right the right of way.

2) The top street and left and right ones do not seem to have any traffic circle sign, at least I can not make one out.

3) The top street has a pedestrian way and infront of that there is a "keep to the right" sign hinting towards the fact that this was left over from when this was a simple intersection

So no wonder they are all fucking up.

they need to put something in the middle...

I used to work in road marking, this thing looks half done.

This has been explained a week or two ago on some boards, during rush hour, the roundabout traffic rules are in place, the other hours it's a cross section.

ottopottomouse 01-25-2011 06:00 AM

It might look disastrous but nobody crashed.

Yeah, that sound's like a true European solution :1orglaugh

Seems to me Americans don't understand it either. We have a small shopping center that has one (for reasons I cannot explain really). I'm always constantly amazed when someone will just turn left instead of going around to make what should be a simple left hand turn.

_Richard_ 01-25-2011 09:23 AM

annoying here.. people won't stop for the yield and trap drivers within the roundabout

This is wrong.
This particular yield sign on a crossing intersect means you have to give way for traffic from left AND right. And it still makes sense with the circle sign, since when you enter the circle you have to give way for traffic already inside the circle (naturally only coming from the left side).

However, this thing looks like done overnight without a warning to regular commuters and it seems to be incomplete. Bound for disaster :D

Take a look at 0:10 - this looks like a very dangerous car movement. This circle is very complicated.

rogueteens 01-25-2011 06:09 PM

Thats not a roundabout ... THIS is a roundabout! :D

Its a right fucker to drive around, i'll tell you!

Overload 01-25-2011 07:42 PM

no crash = all good ... but serious, what kinda idiot plans such crap? a "merry-go-round" for such a small and low traffic crossing? bullshit par excellence ...
