Processors Shaving?

Just a thought.... what is stopping them shaving say 5% of signups... the transaction does not appear on your stat page, the member gets access....

possible..... ?

m0rph3us 01-17-2003 12:32 PM

monitor your htpasswd files.

Darren 01-17-2003 12:33 PM

done 10 test signups, same card with same processor. not all turned up...

could be delay though, just got me thinking if it was possible.

Dax 01-17-2003 12:34 PM

Possible..

But if you have a proggy like pennywize installed u can see who logs on and who doesn t and if u have let's say less than 25 sign ups a day u can keep track of how many sign ups and how many new members access your member's area.....

I would say that if you have a mega site doing 500 sign ups a day.. it would be quite hard to keep up...

Theo 01-17-2003 12:34 PM

that's very serious

NetRodent 01-17-2003 12:35 PM

Have you checked to make sure you were actually charged for all of the transactions? If you try to use one card to make serveral signups too quickly, they might not all get approved. You might also want to check your processor's stats after a couple of hours have passed.

m0rph3us 01-17-2003 12:35 PM

dude,
hire a programmer that will write a proggy to monitor all 'writes' to htpasswd and report at the end of the day how many passes were writted out and how many were added it.

all you'd have to do is periodic spot checks - catch them once and you could sue for fraud - put their merchant account on the line. I doubt any of the ones would risk it.

Thanks

Darren 01-17-2003 12:40 PM

just being hypothetical here guys, just wanting to know whats happening...

Like i said i did do 10 test signups and got access to all sites with all transactions... I am sure they will all appear as there is sometimes a delay for Globill for example there is a delay.

no drama here, please move a long... :)

Theo 01-17-2003 12:49 PM

i would have to agree. they're risking getting completely fucked up if they try stuff like this.

Globill stats lag the transaction. But .htpasswd gets updated instantly, so its impossible for them to cheat.

Unless someone is foolish enough to use that referrer system they are pushing. - Besides not working on all computers, then you truly have no record of sales.

Also keep in mind if they did shave, it would only be a matter of time before a member happened to email you with a question or lost password, and that would blow the whole thing wide open.

i was not referring to globill i know how there system works...

why if someone emailed me with a lost pass would it blow it open? I check and there the guy his and send him his login and pass... I have no way of knowing if i got paid for that transaction...

Just curious that was all :)

kevinl 01-17-2003 01:50 PM

I can"t believe a processor would chance that. Once exposed they would be fucked.

true
I know nothing about processing techology but I think there is no reason to do it.If I have been a CCprocesor I would never do this risky stuff - just imagine what the fuckers like we are would do when know about even one problem - this could be end of your CC processor career

Well I guess it depends but when somebody emails me for a lost password, 9 out of 10 times I check the signup notice from Globill first, by searchiing that email folder using Outlook search.

So if there were people in my .htaccess file, which admittedly I don't look at too often, who DIDN'T pay - the first time one called me on a lost password issue, then Globill (or whoever) would have just got caught.

I saw something posted about AcPay once where a webmaster accused them of shaving..
