Bought My Girlfriend A New Dog Today! [PIC]

We have a Golden Labrador back home in Scotland, been thinking about bringing him out to live with us in Canada, but he is 7 years old soon and if we stay here for 3-4 years then it means we'd be flying him home at 11 years old and I'm not sure he would cope well with the flight... So I bit the bullet and bought my girlfriend a King Charles Spaniel today.

His name is Louie, he is 4 months old and so far he is a nice little guy. Anyone got experience with these dogs? She has always wanted one and had done a fair amount of research on it, all positive feedback about them. Here is a pic of the little guy chillin in his cage

Cute dog. Sounds like your girl wears the pants in your relationship though? You ok with that?

garce 01-23-2011 09:36 PM

Cute dog. I have to say, though, that I would never go anywhere that wouldn't let me bring my dogs with me.

I'm not judging you or the decisions you've made - or the decisions that this country forced you to make - but I could not imagine living without my dogs.

My youngest pup just turned 10 months old, and people would die before I let them take him from me.

On a lighter note, the puppy is cute as heck. I know nothing about the breed, but maybe someone else will. Bumpitty bump

What is your Golden Lab doing in Scotland without you, Ross? Who is taking care of him?

My thoughts exactly.

Canada does not impose restrictions on personal pets (other than reptiles - which you have to go through the import procedure)

It sounds to me that the decision, not to bring the dog, was personal?

Enjoy your dinner :)

If you had a girl like that you'd make some concessions yourself man ;)

Nice dog Ross, good choice.

He lives with my mum back home now. I took the advice of our Vet who told me bringing him to Canada is not a problem, but bringing him back could be a big problem. He would be around 11 years old, and on a plane frightened, it wouldn't be good for him.

So the decision was personal yes, but in the best interests of my dog with advice from our trusted Vet.

My girlfriends happiness means everything to me. She has lived her life through my wishes for the past 2 years, moving country to country, so if buying her a puppy means I need to trade in my man card, tell me where to send it please. :thumbsup

We're cage training him already. He sleeps in it, he goes in there when we eat dinner, he will go in there when we have to go out. So he won't be destroying anything.

very cute puppy :)

wheres the pic of the girlfriend?

F-U-Jimmy 01-24-2011 08:33 AM

I had two King Charles Cavaliers. amazingly friendly playful dogs, they are hunting dogs so if they get the chance they will chase anything that moves. Mine used to kill the odd lizard in California and chase birds, the birds are too fast for them !

They can suffer from hip problems and heart value defects, so its a good idea to have them checked at least once a year by a vet.

Sadly i lost my dogs in a divorce, i had originally brought them for my wife so i guess it was fair that she got them? I used to own large dogs like Weimaraner and Pharaoh Hounds but these small dogs are so much more playful and easy to manage.

Her "happiness means everything" to you but you have had her living through YOUR WISHES for the past 2 years?

makes a lot of sense.

How many hours on a flight vs how many years of not seeing him and maybe something happens and he dies while you're there in Canada? I would have brought the dog

Yeah, called a relationship... give and take and all that... wouldn't expect you to understand.

Just look at that face! Obviously he would own any human he wanted to! haha, nice looking puppy, Ross.

PR_Glen 01-24-2011 11:43 AM

you guys need to give him the benefit of the doubt here... if it were easy for him to ship him out he would have done it, it is not and his dog is perfectly happy where he is now. Ross wouldn't leave him out there unless he knew he wasn't in a good home.

Again, you're not getting it. If I bring him here, yes it will be awesome, however when I take him home he might be too old to risk him on another flight. It's about 16 hours travel time total for him, 2 different planes, stuck in a wooden box all that time. I'd love nothing more than to have him out here with me, my Vet advised against it.

We'll go home once per year from Canada for a couple weeks to see him. When we were in Europe living we went home 3-4 times a year and we'd take him as we still had our house there, but the house is up for sale now as there is no point keeping it when I'm so far from home.

Thanks Mike, you guys will get to see him soon, we'll need to do that PS3 + Beer night soon!

Imortyl Pussycat 01-24-2011 11:48 AM

perfect choice on the pup! those dogs have the sweetest dispositions. i'm 100% with you on your decision not to move your dog back home. the stress of all the travel, being alone all day and less room to run around would have taken a toll.

djroof 01-24-2011 11:50 AM

cute dog... your girl will be happy!

Had my Labrador since I was 21, living in my house alone, he's an even bigger responsibility. Nothing I can't handle.

Sorry I like my independent women not the ones that follow me around like a puppy. Each to their own.

PornGreen 01-24-2011 03:14 PM
