The man was a legend. Remember watching his show as a kid, and of course all the juicer commercials the last few years.

Mutt 01-23-2011 08:18 PM

one of the rare fitness and nutrition zealots who at least could back it up with their own health and longevity. hope they bury him in that smart little jumpsuit he always wore.

Spunky 01-23-2011 08:24 PM

ah see no one can cheat death.

Some Guy 01-23-2011 09:11 PM

Fuck. I was a huge Jack LaLanne fan. This is really sad news.

:(

On a positive note, at least he lived a very full, long life. He was in great shape up until the end.

garce 01-23-2011 09:40 PM

I bought his fitness program (Books! Even before VHS...) and I used to watch his TV show back in the mid-70's.

The man had a full life, though. R.I.P. Jack.

selena 01-23-2011 09:44 PM

This made me sad to read it when I saw it on CNN. I enjoyed watching his show when I was a kid, way, way before there was such a thing as a fitness industry.

I watched him when I was a kid. Heck, the first gym I joined was a Jack LaLanne's Fitness Center.

Robbie 01-23-2011 10:42 PM

RIP. Big props to JL. He was the man.

blackmonsters 01-23-2011 10:44 PM

My biceps are getting smaller already.

I always associated juicers with him no matter what brand they might be.

So what happened?

BVF 01-24-2011 05:31 AM

I was just watching his juicer infomercial the other day at the gym on the treadmill. He inspired me and that day I successfully ran a ten minute mile.

Machete_ 01-24-2011 05:44 AM

Exercise is a futile vanity. jack La Lanne's death proves it.

Sure, he lived to 96. But he spent maybe 30 years total doing push-ups, tugging boats across channels, and doing other "fitness" stunts.

Fact is, most people live to 75 and do maybe 1 year of exercise in that time.

LaLanne lived to 96, but when you subtract out the time he spent exercising he lived about the same amount of USEFUL life as everybody else -- maybe less.

loreen 01-24-2011 08:00 AM

Really? :( Very sad to hear that :(

Rest in peace!

Rochard 01-24-2011 08:06 AM

He was a good friend of yours Baddog?

Well, doesn't that depend on how you define useful? If he enjoyed what he was doing, it made him feel good, and he educated others in the process, I don't know that I'd say it was lacking in usefulness.

You can't out exercise the Grim Reaper though, that is true.

stephane76 01-24-2011 09:57 AM

RIP Jack and wow:

When he turned 43 in 1957, he performed more than 1,000 push-ups in 23 minutes on the "You Asked For It" television show. At 60, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco ? handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat. Ten years later, he performed a similar feat in Long Beach harbor.

Tom_PM 01-24-2011 10:05 AM

RIP, he was a legend of television also. For a long time as a kid I didnt know it was an exercise show. I thought he was just showing off, lol.

Well consider the options - you look and feel better not to mention have a healthy attractive body that women like. I'd rather do the push-up's etc. than live like a fat slob

michael.kickass 01-24-2011 11:15 AM

Rest In Peace Jack!
