Now this is kind of scary

I'm fairly certain (as in 100%) that I would be asking to see the warrant at the door AND their badges before letting them in, but I'm also just as certain that a lot of people out there would just as easily fall for this scam. Fake cops. Christ, what level WON'T the scamming shitheads out there stoop to? |

remember, movies aren't real, not even the true story ones. ;) |
They always use at least 1 marked unit to serve a warrant
|
yeah thats shady...they were probably drug dealers being robbed
i hear some people around here used to do the same thing. show up in real uniforms, cars that look real etc tie everyone up...rob the joint then leave good money in it i guess :) |
family prob involved in illicit activities themselves and had a shitload of money and ot drugs around. no one is going to go through that for an imac and a tv.
|
when i was in college, a friend of mine was pulled over while coming back from a bar. she thought it was a cop and may of had one to many drinks. the guy came out, questioned her and told her that they were going to let her go, but had to tow her car.
she later found out it was just a scam, but she wasn't all that bright as they left her sit on the side of the road waiting for "backup" to come and take her in :1orglaugh |
That's fucked up...Did they just rob the house?

The list of reasons why someone would go to those lengths isn't something you or I can possibly conceive of. |

But you can also exercise a little common sense and call 911 while you're at it (as the full article suggested) to verify their legitimacy. |
Thats pretty scary.
Closest thing I've had to that was some asshole claiming to me to be from "your utility company" which was all the clue I needed to ask for some ID, at which point he said he was trying to save me money. Blah. Just a government legitimized scammer due to de-regulation of energy delivery in my state. At least it wasn't a robbery! |

Let me put it this way.... if 3 such goofballs come to my door trying this they better be packing, because I'd just as likely OPEN the goddammed door and have some fun letting them try to get past me. But I'm one of those psychos who leaves his door open a lot on purpose to invite intrusion. :D (like Joe Divola fr Seinfeld) |
real cops would just kick the door in and shoot your dog. that should have been a tip off.
|
They have been doing this for years down here. It is just getting up there?
|
one upped on crime.

Simple, eh? |
"When the family let them inside, though, all six were handcuffed using plastic ties and forced into the basement."
Could you imagine being lead down stairs to the basement.... I would be shitting my pants |

easy to think what you would or wouldnt do right now as you sit and ponder this....but if they are waking you up in the middle of the night or early morning, you don't walk to the door thinking "are these the real cops?".
Scary shit! |
Well, that's not the first case like that when bandits were pretended to be police. There were also many cases when police officers in fact were bandits. Today you can't trust nobody, maybe except your beloved one and mother.
