Now this is kind of scary

Quote:

It was early Tuesday morning, around 12:30, when three men knocked on the door of an Ajax, Ont., home and told the family that they had a search warrant. They wore black clothing, had bullet proof vests, and their car was equipped with a flashing red light and a siren.

When the family let them inside, though, all six were handcuffed using plastic ties and forced into the basement.

It was over three hours before police were called to the scene.

I'm fairly certain (as in 100%) that I would be asking to see the warrant at the door AND their badges before letting them in, but I'm also just as certain that a lot of people out there would just as easily fall for this scam.

Fake cops. Christ, what level WON'T the scamming shitheads out there stoop to?

Once you open the door, it's too late. First thing you do is call the cops.

That's a given. I can view a warrant/badge through the peephole.

I wouldn't put my eye up to a peephole for guys who appear to have guns.

"Show me the warrant through the peep hole!"

"Here it is. Bang."

bahahhaha yeah lets step it up from armed robbery to cold blooded murder to grab some big screen tv's, cheap jewelry and some loose cash...

remember, movies aren't real, not even the true story ones. ;)

cofojc 01-20-2011 11:21 AM

They always use at least 1 marked unit to serve a warrant

Phoenix 01-20-2011 11:24 AM

yeah thats shady...they were probably drug dealers being robbed

i hear some people around here used to do the same thing.

show up in real uniforms, cars that look real etc

tie everyone up...rob the joint then leave

good money in it i guess :)

Agent 488 01-20-2011 11:26 AM

family prob involved in illicit activities themselves and had a shitload of money and ot drugs around. no one is going to go through that for an imac and a tv.

96ukssob 01-20-2011 11:26 AM

when i was in college, a friend of mine was pulled over while coming back from a bar. she thought it was a cop and may of had one to many drinks. the guy came out, questioned her and told her that they were going to let her go, but had to tow her car.

she later found out it was just a scam, but she wasn't all that bright as they left her sit on the side of the road waiting for "backup" to come and take her in :1orglaugh

tranza 01-20-2011 11:26 AM

That's fucked up...Did they just rob the house?

The biggest mistake is to assume there's some sort of rational thought process going through these guys heads. A lot of times people are so out of it, so fucking loony-toons insane, they kill someone "just because".

The list of reasons why someone would go to those lengths isn't something you or I can possibly conceive of.

Having had a few cop friends over the years, yes I do, and I do know what an official warrant looks like. Had one served on me once.

But you can also exercise a little common sense and call 911 while you're at it (as the full article suggested) to verify their legitimacy.

Tom_PM 01-20-2011 11:56 AM

Thats pretty scary.

Closest thing I've had to that was some asshole claiming to me to be from "your utility company" which was all the clue I needed to ask for some ID, at which point he said he was trying to save me money.

Blah. Just a government legitimized scammer due to de-regulation of energy delivery in my state. At least it wasn't a robbery!

There was no mention in the article that they were armed.

Let me put it this way.... if 3 such goofballs come to my door trying this they better be packing, because I'd just as likely OPEN the goddammed door and have some fun letting them try to get past me.

But I'm one of those psychos who leaves his door open a lot on purpose to invite intrusion. :D

(like Joe Divola fr Seinfeld)

Agent 488 01-20-2011 12:03 PM

real cops would just kick the door in and shoot your dog. that should have been a tip off.

baddog 01-20-2011 12:15 PM

They have been doing this for years down here. It is just getting up there?

Agent 488 01-20-2011 12:17 PM

one upped on crime.

That's a really old trick. Even on the street, 3-4 guys dressed as cops come to you screaming "get on the floor, now". One takes the purse / wallet, you have better things to worry about than that and then they all leave...

Simple, eh?

adamz 01-20-2011 12:50 PM

"When the family let them inside, though, all six were handcuffed using plastic ties and forced into the basement."

Could you imagine being lead down stairs to the basement.... I would be shitting my pants

Spend a week in West Baltimore and your opinion of how much people will do for so little will change drastically.

Being we're in deep freeze 6 months out of the year Canada is always late to the party. :D

thickcash_amo 01-20-2011 04:17 PM

easy to think what you would or wouldnt do right now as you sit and ponder this....but if they are waking you up in the middle of the night or early morning, you don't walk to the door thinking "are these the real cops?".
Scary shit!

Cyber Fucker 01-20-2011 04:34 PM

Well, that's not the first case like that when bandits were pretended to be police. There were also many cases when police officers in fact were bandits. Today you can't trust nobody, maybe except your beloved one and mother.
