Affiliate Programs Post your Cookie Expiration if you Dare......

CCBiLL default is 3 days.
MPA3 default is also 3 days.
I usually tell my clients to change it to at least 30 days.

RyuLion 01-20-2011 12:08 PM

correction: default for MPA3 is 14 days.

alf6300 01-20-2011 03:31 PM

30 days (Verotel does not allow for more, afaik)
as soon as we have ccbill (in the process) will set it to the maximum, which i believe is 255 days.

and oh, yeah, will be cascaded to credit webmasters for both joins.

BTW: I personally believe that you earn MUCH more if you can show webmasters some good stats for your paysites, rather than shaving some credits or playing cheap tricks for the sake of short-term gains. :2 cents:

RyuLion 01-20-2011 03:33 PM

Finally!! Keep em coming..
CCBill:

Go to Legacy Affiliates: Setup: Advanced Features..then scroll down to: Set Cookie Expiration

KillerK 01-20-2011 03:57 PM

cookie stuffing ftw

they should only be using cookies if there is no code in the query string, or no code in the session.

cookie tracking is fail

30 days... I hope thats for LAST click not first

I avoid affiliate programs that use first click cookies. 1) this isnt 2001 anymore and plus 2) im not trying to make some aff money :2 cents:

NetwErk GUrl 01-20-2011 04:12 PM

In MPA3 programs are free to set the cookie how they wish, but cookies are tracked in ADDITION to IP addresses. These settings are set by the program admin in the admin>settings>environment tab in the MPA3 control panel. If you left the cookie field blank it wouldn't track past that browser window being open, alternately, you can set the cookie to 9999999 which is effectively a "lifetime" cookie.

MPA3 tracks cookies according to the time set in the admin, but it also records the IP address of a surfer coming in on a link code in addition to the cookie settings, thereby doubly enforcing that an affiliate will get credit for the IP returns, even if the surfer has wiped their cookies.

chaze 01-20-2011 04:34 PM

Our program does 6 months.

PowerCum 01-20-2011 04:34 PM

The new galaxycash program has cookies at 300 seconds.
After some testing we found that the tracking servers sometimes get time missadjusted regardless of ntp daily timesync, so we decided to give 5 minutes for cookies to live and avoid some click misscount because a given server got it's clock a bit busy on a given day.

Since the program will be per click there is no need to keep the cookies more of the exactly strict time required to track the click. After that the affiliate gets the money in his account balance.

When my company was running "standard" paysites a couple of years ago the cookie time was set to 90 days if I don't mistake.
The 90 days mark was completely deliberated. Some antivirus and "privacy" software tend to delete cookies that live more than 90 days.

Yeap, I know there's a couple of things that can be used to track a session.
I'm just pointing out this feature on ccbill since its a default setting..:2 cents:

Considering that MPA3 only counts about 1/4 of my uniques compared to CCBill or NATS, that's irrelevant to me.

I had a sponsor that paid through DHDRevEx. Made about $150-$200 a week. They switched to MPA3 - still processing exclusively with DHDRevEx - and my unique hits went from about 300-400 daily and $150 a week to about 80 - 100 uniques daily, and $200 per month. It was a smaller program that I only expected $100 a week from, so I was happy till the switch.

I switched them out for a NATS3 program and sales and traffic are back to where they were before the original sponsor switched to MPA3. :2 cents:

I've tried other MPA3 programs and my traffic seems to be counted even more randomly than at BangBros.

Here is a question.

What methods do programs use other than cookies? Cookies Off = Who the fuck cares about length.

BruceM 01-20-2011 11:34 PM

1 year for our sites.

Fair point, but if you are worried about your cookies, you are also VERY unlikely put a credit card online, I suspect. I have seen no data, though.

However, the topic will become more relevant as more people discover the 'private' browsing features - especially if this means more surfers will initiate a navigation at work and finish it (=pay) at home.

I have yet to see a technology that deals reliably with this scenario, though. Maybe I can be enlightened.

Ours is about 3 years. Just deleted my cookie did a new one and expires sometime in 2014 :)

Barry-xlovecam 01-21-2011 05:48 AM

Cookies are not very reliable

Our return cookie is is set on the client's machine to expire in 10 years.

However, it is important to note that this is a "return cookie" ? cookies are not our primary tracking method ? we allow customers to register free and when they do that, they get uninterrupted free chat. (This is the incentive to the customer that we offer.)

Once an affiliate's referred customer is in the registered customer's database, that customer is "owned" by that affiliate, with future rev-share from that customer's purchases paid to the credit of that referring webmaster.
