Hotel's Phase Out of Porn

SIOUX FALL, S.D. ? LodgeNet Interactive said it won't experience significant financial loss after an analyst's report suggested its largest hotel-chain customer will curtail adult videos from its rooms altogether.
Frank McEvoy ,a Craig-Hallum Capital Group senior research analyst, said that as a result LodgeNet could see a yearly revenue loss of $25 million, assuming about 50 percent of LodgeNet?s guest entertainment revenue at these hotels is derived from porn.

Sioux Fall, S.D.-based LodgeNet, in a response to McEvoy's report, said it has worked with its largest hotel customer, which it did not name, to adjust its "economic model" in such a way to assure it remains "economically indifferent" regarding the hotel's decision to offer adult videos. The hotel in question has an option to restrict adult content beginning in 2013.

LodgeNet added that no existing agreements are affected and it doesn't expect any economic impact as a result of the agreement in either 2011 or 2012.

"The company's ongoing relationship with the customer in question is good, and LodgeNet is actively engaged with the customer in discussions regarding the upgrade of their existing systems to high-definition and providing new services that would generate incremental revenues," it said in a statement.

LodgeNet said it has always offered hotels options to restrict adult content and that ?it has been widely disclosed the company has been diversifying its revenue base and is less reliant on revenue from mature content than at any point in the past."

The guests probably know they can get it for free on porn Tubes. :1orglaugh

who still pays for porn in their hotel room when every hotel you go to has free wireless access, and virtually everyone has a laptop? must only be a small percent compared to the hayday there too...

ottopottomouse 01-20-2011 06:23 AM

The hotels won't lose out they are just charging for internet instead.

magicmike 01-20-2011 06:36 AM

Yeah their revenue must be down on porn as well.

Just another industry adapting to the future. Hotels used to be a very very big earner for porn companies who could get in on the market. A lot of it was softcore and why companies like Vivid shot softcore versions.

20 minutes on a free Tube costs what in a hotel?

PPV movies used to cost a lot. I think it was around $10 or more.

Yeah, cause just killing 25 million in profit is adapting to loss, some how... even if it dropped to 10 million profit - how in hell is removing it adapting to the future?

Adapting would be them opening the market to better porn, rather than the same softcore porn you can get at every other hotel across the Country.

And what makes you think hotels still aren't a big market for porn - even crappy softcore porn, when this company alone is making 25 million profit from it?

Oh wait... It's tube's killing the 25 million in profit, not the company - my bad. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

In most small towns it costs nothing. BUT in most metropolitan areas it costs quite a bit. Here in Vegas you can end up spending $15 for 24 hour access to the internet. Same in New York and Los Angeles.

I'm glad my Droid phone is a wifi hotspot. That has saved me hundreds of dollars as I just use my phone as my wifi connection to surf now when I'm at a hotel.

Tasty1 01-20-2011 08:14 AM

A lot of hotels charge 10 - 20 dollar for wifi. That is the alternative. Except for people that live in the country, more and more people have wireless broadband and don't need hotel wifi. But when im am in a different country, hotel wifi is the only way to get internet. My vegas timeshare hotel had free wifi, but most charge you. Unlimited Wifi broadband on your phone costs here 15 euro per month, first year it is free.

CarlosTheGaucho 01-20-2011 08:51 AM

My guess would be this has a lot to do with the cut Lodgenet, as a turnkey solution gives to the hotels, if it's not a "moral" pressure of some kind which I'd doubt.

In fact, charging extra for the internet as the only source of porn would make total sense as you would simply make more $ a day in profit, then what is the equivalent of multiple pay per view rentals, plus you can also become officially "porn free" this way, get some PR and accept even the most prude guests.

"50 percent of LodgeNet’s guest entertainment revenue at these hotels is derived from porn" - that's a surprisingly huge amount.

what other entertainment revenue do they receive besides regular ppv ? usually you don't stay at a hotel to watch movies, infact if they were smart they would have ppe ( pay per episode for tv shows )

but i think a drop in revenue is simpler to explain. gone are the days you could raid the bar fridge , watch porn , and then charge it all to your boss, everything is itemized and audited now.

No idea for everywhere but it would have been £15 for the internet at a hotel in London last November - greedy fuckers.

Mobiles :thumbsup

Jim_Gunn 01-21-2011 01:15 PM

With my smartphone and laptop tethering I have no need to pay for hotel internet service anymore, much less pay for porn programming on the hotel tv. I had a pretty good connection last week in Vegas and it didn't cost me a dime extra.
