Check out China's plans for high speed rail

http://dvice.com/assets_c/2010/03/Ch...auto-35722.jpg

It'll be fantastic to be able to travel all over Eurasia without flying on trains that go almost as fast as planes, and with no bullshit 4 hour security check in for international flights and with train stations typically being in the center of cities rather than 70kms away, door to door travel may actually be faster than flying even for long trips.

Not to mention trains are WAY more fuel efficient than flying so peak oil won't affect Eurasian travel as much

http://dvice.com/archives/2010/03/china-plans-mas.php

While America is trying to figure out how to connect Disney and Vegas with a maglev train, China is going forward with plans to connect a whopping 17 nations with a high-speed rail network. The plan right now is for three major lines: one that connects Beijing to London via the Channel Tunnel (or Chunnel) and continues on to Singapore; a second line that covers Malaysia, Burma, Vietnam, and Thailand; and a third that would bridge China, Russia and Germany to other European railways. And, just when you thought it wouldn't get crazier: China wants to get this done in the next 10 years.

What China is accomplishing is what can be done with fucktard socialists with environmental laws mucking up the works. China wants to do something, it fucking does it, no question. That is the REAL reason why China will be the power of the 21st century.

Fantastic, I hope they make their trains more secure than their cars. I'd imagine their trains is build out of old coca cola cans carrying 2500 people and traveling with 250 mph

Again, manpower, but a "we don't fuck around" attitude sure helps.

Summed up nicely.

When you do not have corporate greed in the equation. You can get a lot more accomplished. Especially when it comes to these types of projects.

China amazes with a plan to connect 17 countries with rails in 10 years. It's good that these trains are fuel efficient.

HomerSimpson 01-20-2011 04:58 AM

I don't think it's possible for something like that to be built in 10 years...

who fooled you into believing that ? most chinese live in nice residential areas, where they have nice appartments , many people have more than one too , not uncommon for people to own upto 5 or 6 appartments ...

I live in China right now , and even though many people are poor and do live in squalor , many many people dont :thumbsup
