Russian hotlinking blogs fucking up my google traffic lately

How the Fuck do you stop these assholes or at least minimize damage?

Seems almost every image traffic keyword I used to own is now being sent to these fuckers that hotlink the images on me. I htaccess'ed them so images don't show on their CP filled pages but in google search (I allowed google) it still shows my images that link directly to his pages.

I clicked a pic on a non-cp page and it redirected to facebookofsex then to adultfriendfinder.

I just looked over stats again.. ridiculous. I lost all my image traffic and there's new ones hotlinking every day. Some up to 30,000 hits a day on my terms. I'm actually thinking of just deleting the entire domain because as soon as a make a change to any file naming or keyword they they rank higher than me on my own terms using my images within 2-3 days.

My site went from giving me a check every week or so to $0 for the past 2 months.

Contact their hosting company and tell them hotlinking images is against your terms and to immediately redirect their traffic to a landing page of your choice. First put a big disclaimer at the bottom of your page.

In addition... maybe try this...

these are spam results... hint hint !

htaccess will not solve it guys.

Google image search will still show my images/keywords with his link. Dude still gets the traffic. Everything's been htaccess to stop hotlinking years ago. Only trusted domains may hotlink from me. My images do not show up on the spam pages.
Ive had a few pages shut down but 10 more pop up in 2-3 days.

What they do is cloaking, hotlink images with good seprs and add alt/title tags to their own html thus increasing their own page's importance. Doing this drops legitimate site's importance and the spam page takes the legit one's place. It's an exploit of the whole image.google.com system.

Google is well aware of this exploit and cannot do anything about it (so far) without hurting legitimate sites rankings. The ability for a site to gain importance by featuring content that is well regarded has it's legitimate places.

I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to minimize the traffic loss without destroying what my site has already amassed in google however I do not think it's possible.

and oh, I sent Adult Friend finder all the info on this ring, ref codes, landing pages associating AFF ref codes linked from text and alt tags indicative of Cp on these spam pages.. everything. Not even a response from them. They're making good money off everyone's ill-taken traffic for many years now and hitting people from their income source is not even an option anymore because of the "turn the other cheek" attitudes from these enablers... but .. c'est la vie.

however all of this gives me good legitimate uses for this amongst other sites in my network. How long before i start ranking good though and the fucker's scripts catch the good serps and repeat it all over again.

Get dirty with him right back. Find the IP range his scraper is hitting you with and set up a special page sent only to him which serves slightly different versions of Goatse and ******* images. Or more beneficial make the image nothing more than your site's logo and url. Take his traffic. It's probably all automated so he is unlikely to notice right away.

If you want go further than serving special cloaked pages to just his known IP range and do something more versatile, implement a system to do it for any non-whitelisted bot. Set up traps to detect the bots. Just don't get the Googlebot or other beneficial ones by mistake.

signupdamnit 02-01-2011 06:42 PM

I forgot to mention that basic .htaccess protection using the referrer is easily defeated. You need to do more than that. That's why you have to get him when he tries to scrap your content. :)

That's actually very helpful :) I wonder though, since his script looks at the originating image url in googles urls and the script doesnt even land on my domain is there any benefit to trying to manipulate what his script 'would' see on my end?

I've had issues getting anything to show different images than ones requested by offending domains too. Always brings entire domain 404. So I just setup a simple whitelist for allowed domains.

Even at that. showing another image is pointless at this point, its google's serps that make my productive traffic, my type-in is less valuable to me as opposed to the financial benefit from my serp results.

I have read about replacing any calls from non-whitelisted domains for .jpg files with a php script that can inject my own html/javascript code and even break frames from that html if needed.

.. I have not been able to get it to successfully work though and I'd be nervous about inserting anything related to any of my own ref codes or landing to anything I own as most of the spam results are laden with Cp and other illegal stuff.

Im going to look into that cloaking though.. you have me on an idea..

I had the same sort of issues, what finally screwed me was Google gave authority to the sites hot linking and not to the original site, The was image searches are listed now pretty much blew all the easy if not all money out of the market anyway so I just shut the domains down, was more than 1500 domains no not small fry numbers either

Yes you can do that and it should work quite well if you set it up correctly. It won't save your google listings though. That's tougher to prevent if he's scraping the Google hosted pages rather than your site directly because you can't intercept the scraper and feed it crap.. Google should be keeping track of who put the content up first and going with that rather than who it thinks has authority. But I doubt they care unless someone really pushes the issue.

Do you have any examples of code that can do this? I can't seem to get anything to work. .

It's getting crazy frustrating.
