Do you have white / gray hair?

And if you do, how old are you?

When I was a child I was under the impression that only old ("grandpa" type of old) people have white hair. Now I look around / the mirror and see 25 year olds with gray hair starting to pop up. What's the deal? :Oh crap

My first guess it's (bad) genes + laziness.

shermo 01-18-2011 05:21 PM

I'm blonde, so even if I do, I wouldn't know for a while. I know many people my age (late 20s) that have grays. They always seem to be the people in the most stressful environments, and they seem to have the darkest hair as well.

Just my observation...

CYF 01-18-2011 05:21 PM

I'm 31. My hair is real dark and I don't have any on my head. My goatee is mostly dark but has some red and blond in it. I have a couple of gray's popping up in my goatee.

Sucks man, but a lot better than the alternative.

Martin 01-18-2011 05:39 PM

32 and I have a few now. Along the sides. Noticed a few on top now too.

ScriptWorkz 01-18-2011 05:54 PM

I'm 25 and i'm starting to get way more then my fair share. My hair is dark so unfortunately it's pretty obvious :(
Mines from a combination of bad genes (father went grey young) and a ton of stress. :helpme

Verbal 01-18-2011 05:58 PM

Mine started when I had kids (@33 years)... Don't have kids if you care about your hair. Definitely not twins.

Brujah 01-18-2011 05:59 PM

How do you get gray hair by being lazy?

BIGTYMER 01-18-2011 06:00 PM

I noticed 1 single gray hair the other day. I cut it.

LeRoy 01-18-2011 06:02 PM

I'll be 40 next month. They're coming in :(

Just plucked the 3rd one out this morning. I guess I should be grateful but.

Getting old sucks

Sitting on your ass all day long is really bad for your health and you slowly start to deteriorate, including white hair, bad circulation, sperm quality / menstrual cycle are affected etc :Oh crap

haha i was gonna ask the same

i'm getting more every month - i'm 46 tho, would be pretty unrealistic to not have any gray hair at my age. i think most of the middle aged people u see without any gray hair are dying it.

i didn't have any until I was 41.

those other things might be true but gray hair has nothing to do with sitting on your ass. do you have a link to anywhere it says being a couch potato can cause hair to turn gray?

Anthony 01-18-2011 06:22 PM

42 and all black.

mynameisjim 01-18-2011 06:23 PM

Being lazy??

That makes no sense, lazy people have little stress so they would probably have the least amount of gray hair if it's caused by stress.

I've noticed that fat chicks usually have healthy looking hair, I think it's the extra fat that makes it thick and shiny. It's those skinny gym rat women that look all dried out all the time.

asians don't go gray as fast and also age slower in general - whites age the worst , the fairer the skin the faster you age it seems.

CaptainHowdy 01-18-2011 06:36 PM

I have some and I'm timeless, man...

Spunky 01-18-2011 06:42 PM

I agree. I get mistaken for being the older brother of my son.

Vendzilla 01-18-2011 06:49 PM

50 here and it's chrome, not gray. Little around the temples
Beard has a lot more, tell a girl I'm going to color it and they tell me not to

V_RocKs 01-18-2011 07:01 PM

3xmedia 01-18-2011 07:04 PM

women like it so don't worry :winkwink:

my friend works like a hairdresser and she said she notices them on kids under 15yo from time to time.

I think it's 80% gens, 20% lifestyle.

TheDoc 01-18-2011 07:05 PM

Hehe, being lazy, not working out, having a horrible diet... isn't going to change your hair color.

Kids on the other hand...

Juicy D. Links 01-18-2011 07:16 PM

My pubic hair is grey

Amputate Your Head 01-18-2011 08:26 PM

jonnydoe 01-18-2011 09:08 PM

The Heron 01-18-2011 09:16 PM

27 just started finding gray hairs, not just on head but chest and pubes. Guess I'll look distinguished soon enough! Though I keep it buzzed short so you can't tell until it grows out

baddog 01-18-2011 09:17 PM

I think so. Better than going bald though.

sojproductions 01-19-2011 12:21 AM

34 and got a fair few behind around my ears! none on top yet!

Agent 488 01-19-2011 12:50 AM

some younger people actually dye their hair grey, grey streaks etc maybe that's what you saw.

or not.

Danny B 01-19-2011 12:54 AM

29 and been getting grey hairs since I was 25.
Not worried about them at all.

chaze 01-19-2011 01:01 AM

35 and none yet, but I wonder what really causes it.

kjpp 01-19-2011 01:15 AM

I have few.

Finike 01-19-2011 01:16 AM

My hair isn't grey, it is cemetary blond!

DWB 01-19-2011 04:48 AM

I have a handful of gray in my beard, right around the chin.

CurrentlySober 01-19-2011 04:58 AM

I am 42 - I have long hair, peppered with grey. Mostly noticeable through long wisps at the side, near my ears. The bulk however, is dark brown.

However, about 5 years ago, when I shaved my head completely to remove my Mohican, and it grew back from scratch, while it was still short, 1 cm long, it was almost completely grey...

Zorgman 01-19-2011 05:16 AM

I had albino ( bright white) hair as a child. Not it's brown. I got no problems going gray or white. :) Bring it on!

thank you...

I don't even think stress causes them.. people starving in the world and not a grey hair on them...

I would bet it is under the same genetic confines of where the baldness gene comes from, your mothers fathers hair. My grandfather barely has all grey hair now and he's in his late 80's...

DamianJ 01-19-2011 06:58 AM

ffs. Grey hair has fuck all to do with how long you sit on your fucking arse.

Hair color is the follicles due to two types of melanin, eumelanin and pheomelanin. Generally, if more melanin is present, the color of the hair is darker; if less melanin is present, the hair is lighter. Levels of melanin can vary over time causing a person's hair color to change, and it is possible to have hair follicles of more than one color.

...

Grey or white hair is not actually a true grey or white pigment. In fact, it is clear due to lack of pigmentation and melanin. The clear hairs appear as Grey or White because of the way light reflects from the hairs. Grey hair color typically occurs naturally as people age (see "Effects of aging on hair color", below). For some people this can happen at a very young age (for example, at the age of 10). The same is true for white hair. In some cases, grey hair may be caused by thyroid deficiencies or a deficiency of B12.[7]
The Journal of Investigative Dermatology published a study in 2005 which found that white people will begin to grey in their mid-30s and Asian people begin greying in their late thirties, but most black people can retain their original hair color until their mid-forties.[8] People with albinism may have white hair due to low amounts of melanin.

On the other hand, my bf is having white hair since he had 20 yo caused by stress

TurboAngel 01-19-2011 08:14 AM

I'm blonde so I haven't seen any but I do have a few white hairs in my eyebrows.

Evil Chris 01-19-2011 08:21 AM

I'm mostly grey now. Started in my early 20s. (I'm way past that now) :)

czarina 01-19-2011 08:23 AM

Chosen 01-19-2011 08:37 AM

spazlabz 01-19-2011 09:22 AM

I am 44 and sit all day at my desk or recliner and I have very little grey hair.... I should be bald and have a few white strands sticking out here or there but I don't. it is very weird
