Pretty amazing technology I just saw demo'ed

...on the news. A person in Israel has developed an automated mechanical device that allows parapaligics to walk..even up and down stairs. The person carries a battery backpack and one can walk all day on a single charge. It has been approved by the FDA and will begin to be issued to vets over the next six months. It should become available to the general public sometime during this year. The cost is $45,000 per unit.

Sounds truly amazing. Any links to story or video?

Sorry but no...as I just saw it on the news...and yes it is amazing as it will make the paralyzed completely mobile once again...and the device can walk at a pretty good pace as well. So now they have bionic hands and arms...as well as legs. I salute the people that invent these kinds of devices.

BTW...it was a paralyzed former Israeli paratrooper that had been shot in the spine that demo'ed the device. He made it look easy...and it appeared to me that there should only be a small learning curve.

that is pretty cool, i was waiting for something like this to come out.

what id rather see is reattached nerves though, just by pass the bad ones and then relearn to walk

HomerSimpson 01-16-2011 06:43 PM

looks good!
hope it will help those in need to feel free of wheel chair again...

Just imagine if this same company gets a contract with the Army to develop exo's to let soldiers walk longer / run faster / be stronger. The money this company would make would pay for advances that would allow for completely normal walking I'd bet..

The Ghost 01-16-2011 11:14 PM

Advances like this are awesome.

Cyber Fucker 01-16-2011 11:23 PM

Interesting for sure. :)

cooldude7 01-17-2011 03:16 AM

this is a great breakthrough., best of luck.

V_RocKs 01-17-2011 04:35 AM

Good news for insurance companies!

John-ACWM 01-17-2011 08:25 AM

Too bad not many will afford it, yet it's a great news.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-17-2011 08:38 AM

but where do you mount the gatling guns?

djroof 01-17-2011 08:40 AM

wow great!

fatfoo 01-17-2011 08:41 AM

The battery lasts all day. That's impressive.

oh for sure...i dont mean to take away from what they are doing. It's just i was hoping we would be further along by now...lol

i am pretty sure the military industrial companies have been working on a strider type machine for awhile now...its still powered by human muscle, just assisted with mechanics.

so they can stride across a 20 mile desert without being used up...that sort of thing

They are and currently have one that makes a soldier multiple times stronger and it also walks. One thing they intend to use it for is lifting and loading as the soldier can lift and load without tiring.

I saw that thing, I believe it was on an episode of Future Weapons, though I could be wrong. It was basically like an exoskeleton type thing, and they demo'd it for it's lifting purposes. Was a really cool outfit.

I don't recall where I saw it demo'ed...but yes it was like an exoskeleton...and appeared to be perfected to me...as the guy doing the demo...moved easily...smoothly...and performed various tasks perfectly.
