random question for americans...

do you have a circulating $1 coin now?

uno 01-16-2011 02:12 AM

I have some in my coin jar, but i think they were only minted in 2000. Could have just hit me on the Q mang.

I did work for a strip club and some strippers at the time and there were many good jokes about inserting the dollar coins.

You Americans are really missing out on the coin throwing game at strip clubs. Something awesome about getting hammered and throwing change at strippers. I'm a fucking sniper. Haha. :thumbsup

My wife started getting them and giving them as good luck gifts on New Years...never understood exactly why, but I have a few rattling around.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-16-2011 03:18 AM

I was just at the grocery store today and the girls at the til had one and were talking about it all mind blown. I didn't take a look at it, but I'd never heard of one either. I was curious afterwards.

Found them on Wikipedia with a little searching. Apparently they've been minting them since 2000, not just the one run.

Yes there are several dollar coins, the big silver dollars and the small gold ones. Never seen one in a strip club though I don't think the girls would like it, although I doubt they would turn down money.

Up here that is the standard in most strip clubs. The girls lick and stick something to their naked bodies and you throw coins ($1 or $2 coins, throw a quarter and you'll get bitchsmacked) at them to try and knock it off for prizes. If you ever find yourself in Canada, hit up a strip club and get yourself a fist full of loonies. You'll have a blast.

Barefootsies 01-16-2011 06:35 AM

Yes, there is more than one kind circulating. I typically only see them at the bank when I ask for them or if at some novelty type of place that thinks it's cool to hand out Susan B Anthony's or the other one.
:2 cents:

BIGTYMER 01-16-2011 06:37 AM

Yep. I have them saved with some other coins.

SteveHardeman 01-16-2011 07:55 AM

Not all Americans even know we have them. A couple of months ago I was leaving a paid parking garage and the lady in front of me was at the little auto-pay station and she's taking forever. I'm beginning to get pissed. People behind me are starting some honking. Suddenly she puts her car in reverse and signals to me that I have to back up so she can get out. I'm assuming that she doesn't have the money to pay so I get out and walk up to her car thinking I'll just pay it for her as that'll be more convenient than having to have everyone back up. I walk up to her car and she tells me that something's wrong with this damn machine, it only gave her "tokens." UGH!!!, Those are Sacajawea dollars lady. OOooooohhhhhhh, so sorry. And away we went.

one of the strip clubs in my hometown area years back (not sure if they still do it) used to do this.. you lay down on the stage with a toonie in your mouth and the stripper will rub her pussy/tits all over you and then take the toonie with her tits (usually).

I like that idea. Might do that myself next year.

Personally I find singles more convenient, but it's not like I use cash enough to really bitch. We're becoming increasingly a more plastic world. Swipe and go.

V_RocKs 01-16-2011 02:48 PM

When I used to be a grocery store checker I had a hard time giving out Susan B Anthony's dollar coins... People would tell me they didn't want Canadian money or Mexican pesos.

adendreams 01-16-2011 05:59 PM

slot machines would be a bore without those big silver dollars

I only use cash for person to person transactions. Never seen a $1 coin.

Drunk men throwing coins seems like trouble waiting to happen ... do the girls wear eye protection? Heck, in the U.S., OSHA might even require it.

On a related topic, do many patrons come in with bags of coins? Seems like a hassle compared to bills, which are light, easy to carry.

American dollar coins have been minted intermittently since 1794, currently there are three dollar coin series in production: The Presidential $1 Coin Series (begun in 2007), the Sacagawea Golden Dollar (first issued in 2000), and the Native American $1 Coins(first issued in 2009).

All three dollar coins are golden in color, created by a mixture of metals (none of them gold). These dollar coins have the same "electromagnetic signature" as their predecessor, the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) dollar, which was silver in color. Keeping this signature allows older vending machines to accept the new coins without being retrofitted.

DWB 01-17-2011 01:16 PM

Never seen them.

pornguy 01-17-2011 01:20 PM

We have the 10 peso coin here its about the same as 1 dollar. Kind of big and heavy. hit a stripper on the pole with one of those and she is going down.

I didn't know the US had "regular" dollar coins until a few years back I was in San Diego and bought a train ticket into the city. Got a ticket from a machine, paid with notes but got dollar coins in return. I was quite surprised. I'm not an American btw.

Probono 01-17-2011 02:58 PM

Taxi drivers in Ecuador use them. It the only place I have seen them actually common
