I'm not sure if this has been posted, but as of now, Goldstar Modeling, once one of Porn Valley's premiere agencies, is dead.

I liked doing biz with Joel, too.

Or maybe he just forgot to renew his domain? Did you actually talk to him?

Last time I looked, he was down to 20 girls, 10 of which had been shot out since 2008, and some of the others listed as available haven't been for at least a year.

I like Joel, and I hope things are going well for him outside of this biz.

Weird... sounds like he hasn't really been trying. I can find all sorts of girls to shoot, and I'm not even a full-time casting guy.

It's not a sign of the times... and you should know that, Billy. Joel was the sole author of his decline and fall. The economy, tubes, etc., weren't to blame.

And I liked Joel, and found him to be much wittier and smarter than the average Porn Valley types. But most of us in the biz here in LA--you included, I'm sure--knew he had personal demons that prevented him from running his business and his life effectively.

Joels demons? Backstabbing good friends was a biggie... Good Riddance

I knew, but was not personally close to Joel, so I have no idea what his "demons" were.

I do know that GSM was once one of the good sources for Asian models/performers, and I'm sad anytime a good source goes away, even though I knew some models had issues with Joel.

I too always liked dealing Joel, Sam, Hee and the rest of the guys over there.

Production has fallen by over 50 % and there are very few quality new girls entering the adult industry, more agencies will merge or fold.

A lot of people are quick to blame the economy when adult programs go under. "It's the sign of the times". Yet I think more of these "adult programs" were less of real companies and more of some broke thirty year old living with their parents hoping to start a porn company only to fall apart at tax time when they discover they can't pay the taxes on what little profit they made.

These people shouldn't have been in business in the first place. But sometimes the entry barrier to our industry is set so low.

(no dis-respect to this Joel guy; I never heard of him. I'm just speaking in general terms.)

why is that? the decrease in production shouldn't have an impact on the number and quality of new girls entering the biz, the quality new girls are the ones who can still make a lot of money. it's after everybody has shot the new girls that there's no longer much work for them. you'd think with the bad economy more girls and women would be getting in.
and with production down 50% you'd think the agents would be working harder to bring in the really cute and hot girls who actually can get lots of work.

The reality is that most of the agents- especially the ones in LA- do little or nothing to bring brand new girls into the business. They may get a few truly new faces from time to time, but half of the models that they put up on their sites or email blasts as "Brand new- Just arrived in town" for their Porn Valley clients have already shot with someone like me before or some other producer or photographer a handful of times. So they aren't really brand new anwyay. My own informal network of recruiters, advertisements, email addresses and referring associates always did and still does bring more new models into the biz than a licensed and bonded agency like Goldstar did even back several years ago when they were still booming.

i dont really see less girls coming into the industry, but with the rates dropping i think many girls dont consider it as interesting as it was a few years ago and that may keep some away.

goldstar was by no means a "30 yo living in moms basement", it was a huge agency some years ago with lots of quality models like puma swede and also sunny leone i think..

At one point, LADirect was threatened by Goldstar. Puma and Sunny were just two of Joel's many girls...120 at his hey day, if I'm not mistaken.

It used to be that an average new girl in porn could, and would, make six figures for three to five years.

She would go back home, feature dance, sign at shows etc.. and brag to everyone how great life was in Porn Valley, USA.

Of course other girls would hear these stories and they would come out and get in porn, and it turn tell others about their success, and the cycle would repeat over and over.

Now most new girls are in porn are lucky to make it six months before they are escorting and very bitter about their porn experience.

It is no wonder there is shortage of quality new girls.

Valid point. Now within a month she has a twitter account being followed by her whole network of friends back home. On which she posts daily about how many drugs she is doing, has no money and yet again has the clap.

Everyone wants to see the girl in porn with those "would never do porn looks". Fact is the girls that still stink of hope have no interest in porn because they can make the same kind of money getting their hustle on back in their hometown.

Many of the "fresh faces" coming into my office and asking about getting into porn are so broken they'd make Lindsey Lohan look good.

I have had a record month with over 50 new applications or interviews (and the month isnt over yet) and I doubt a single one will be shootable.

I am having to repeat girls in most of my sites and series because there are so few quality new girls.

I have no reason to believe that anything will change soon.

I am happy to report he is working for financial analyst and doing very well.
