I don't live in Bangkok, however I tried going to a Thailand food restaraunt. I read a book that says "don't go to Bangkok." Apparently it could be unsafe there. Good luck!

I've lived there for weeks at a time, does that count? Much of Asia's the same... the only real standouts for me are Singapore and Japan.

Bangkok is safe. Not much happens there in terms of Thai on foreigner crime other than the usual scams they try to run on you.

The beach towns / cities are another story and while they are relatively safe, they are becoming more dangerous. Lots of violent attacks on foreigners lately in Phuket, Pattaya and Samui. Lots of organized crime moving in from other countries (like Russian mafia). The police are generally paid to look the other way and are often in on the crime, so you're really on your own in the smaller tourist areas should you end up a target or find yourself in the middle of some shit.

If your main income is from adult you might want to look into that.

BKK is not as cheap as people like to make it out to be. YES you can live like a local on a little money, but the quality of life would be horrible. If you want a nice life, you will pay for it. It's a major city, and while it's cheaper than a lot of other major cities, it's not cheap.

However, if you go out a little ways and out of the tourist areas, you can live DIRT CHEAP and have a good life.

I'm not in Bangkok, but up in NE Thailand. Don't think I'd ever want to live in Bangkok. It's good for a few days here and there to party and check out some sights, but after that, I have to get out. I'm quite happy up here in Issan. Thinking of moving to Columbia though, just for shits and giggles.

I'm not sure about that. It's not expensive, but I wouldn't say it's cheap either. I spend about $3000/month, if not a bit more, up here in poverty stricken Issan. Then as comparison, while living in a luxury condo in downtown Vancouver, I was spending $4000 - $5000/month.

Don't go to Pattaya.

Where you at? We have a place on the outskirts of Nong Khai. I don't get up there as much as I'd like but it's super relaxing when we do.

It's funny seeing the same apartment going for 10,000 baht that's being advertised in English for 40,000.

i don't know how you spend 3 k usd monthly in Isaan, i spent in thailand around 40 usd daily, and it was with intensive travelling...
If I'd stay in one place (especially Isaan), i'd probably spend around 25 bucks daily most ;]
