I think I got hacked.... help....
I was working from a Cafe last night and I think someone one got into my system. Can you please take your best guess and offer and suggestions.
1. Tried to goto gmail Safari can?t open the page. Too many redirects occurred trying to open ?https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1?. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page. 2. My date and time was set back when I logged in this morning. 3. I got this weird prompt asking me to grant someone access 4. I cant open google gmail on chrome but works in firefox. 5. I cant load up my msn messanger I get a certificate issue. What do you think is wrong.. I have cleared out all my browsing history. I'm on a Mac. |

have you tried to restart google? :)
|
Probably somebody spying on you with the Firefox plugin...
|
See FB message for fix..
and remember you can always sell your Mac on Ebay and get a PC.. lol |
System restore ... oh wait :thumbsup
|
First open Applications>Utilities>Network Utility
In Info, Select the network you are on from the drop list. Then there should be a button to renew your dhcp or something?? Try that and see if it works. If not restart, and see if that works. If that fails, then call Apple support. If you've never dealt with Apple support you'll be very pleased. One of the best support companies in the world. ;) |
Hi Dwreck,
Don't sell your Mac. Trust me you have a great machine. I've been a PC guy my whole life and trust me Mac's KICK ASS. PC's are awful. Do this : First, reboot your machine if you haven't already done so. Go into your System Preferences and check your network settings. Click on DNS and make sure that the DNS Server listed is the same as your ISP, or if you are using an Apple's Wireless router, that it is set to local (usually 10.0.1.1). Your machine may have somehow had its DNS changed so that any site you try to surf to resolves to a different IP address, hijacking your machine. Once you set it close your browsers and try again, and this should fix your problem. If that fails call Apple. Support is GOOD and FAST (Like my Mom!). |
get a PC

Check DNS settings (as described above)
Next try... Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor Check for any sketchy processes running and quit them if necessary... Applications -> Utilities -> Console Check for any bizarre log entries Failing that... Applications-> Utilities -> Terminal ps aux Will give you a full and complete list of processes that are running... you can kill off any odd stuff by using sudo kill -9 PID [PID] [PID] [PID] PID is/are the process ID(s) That being said, wait till your logic board dies 1 week after the warranty expires and Apple wants $1,800 for just the logic board on a 2 year old laptop... Even used you're looking at over a grand... I will never buy another apple laptop again... EDIT: ALSO... Check your hosts file in case something is rewriting everything... from Terminal type: vi /etc/hosts Not sure if you're familiar with vi but you can at least take a look at it... "i" for insert mode "esc" for exiting insert mode ":q" for quit ":wq" for write/quit Good luck! |
Sorry to hear dwreck :( :(
|
update on this? i guarantee you didn't get hacked (osx is unix basically).
|
Too many redirects... I get that message sometimes when I'm at my school computer lab. I don't think it means you got hacked.

There are more security holes in most *nix systems than there are in Windows... particularly dependent on what libs and services you have running. AND there's that whole part about security patches taking longer for open source than closed source ;) Microsoft has to react REALLY fast to anything because it's so widely used and by so many major corporations... Open source patches can often times take weeks, even months... That's why you need a solid admin who keeps up on everything and can take a look at patch files and determine if they do indeed work... then apply them and recompile ;) |
Mac is Virus and hack proof. Just ask Steve Jobs!

check your date and time
clear your cookies and other browser shit reboot try again |

Hey Mark, Thanks for the confidence booster about Mac products. How do I check if the dns server is the same as my isp? The way you explain whats going on is whats is happening to my my machine. I will call apply support tonight. |

Flush the dns cache: dscacheutil -flushcache
The OS makes no difference if you can get hacked or a virus, period. Every OS has exploits, and if it's an open network and the right person is watching, any machine can be breached. If a machine has an IP address, it is hackable. |
