Persiankitty.com sale scam!
 

First...

If you receive an email from anyone stating they are selling persiankitty.com don't believe them. It's not for sale at any price let alone the pittance this scam artist is asking.


Last week, I received a handful of emails from people looking for information regarding an email they had received from a guy named "Peter Barnidge" and "Peter Brome". His email claimed that he was looking to sell the domain persiankitty.com (not a misspelling of the real name). His initial correspondence was through a Yahoo email address (big clue right there). I have seen a subsequent email address that was from UNC.edu (University of North Carolina).

When pressed for more information in reponse to his email, he claimed to be a co-ower of Meow Media, Inc. (my corporation of which I am sole owner and officer). He presented (not titled) traffic and revenue reports when asked. I've not see these reports at all nor heard what they claimed.

Anyone that emailed me regarding this last week received a reply from me that the domain was not for sale and that Mr Barnidge was attempting to scam them.

Today I received an email from someone who believe him enough to deposit money in his Paypal account. He'd told the guy that he and I were both students working on Master's in Accounting at UNC and needed money for medical bills and tuition.

I don't know if the person he scammed has any recourse or not. It doesn't sound like there was anything in writing, just via email.

They are not exactly known for their ability to see through scams ...

Incidentally, just how much was he asking? Was it an insultingly low amount, like $50k?

All of my correspondence with them has to have a password for authentication. They email me any attempts at change... (believe me their has been attempts).

I don't even think it was $5K.

there's always some theif trying to run some sort of scam out there, the funny thing is if these theives ran honest businesses they would probally make MORE money.

i'll give you $1.50 for it....

Seems like getting cops inolved in internet scams is sometimes nearly impossible.

Selling the site for $2,000 - bet he thought he was getting a deal.

I just wonder who this guy was that he would be clueless enough to think a site like Persian Kitty would go for 4 figures. LOW 4 figures at that!

A thing I found odd was the only revenue stuff he presented was an AlbionMedical affiliate account. I don't even have one.

Let's put it this way.. People paid him, right? Because people are stupid. He picked a price that people would be willing to part with, preying on those who can't resist a deal that is too good to be true.

Probably figured it would be easier to get nibbles for a very low amount than a very high one.

They negotitated the price @ $2000. With $1000 down and 25% of the sites earnings for the first six months.
($1000/6 months = $166 a month x 4 = $664, so PersianKitty makes a whopping $664 a month)

If that guy wouldn't have paid the $1000 then the scammer wouldn't be in such big trouble. It's the best $1000 he ever spent. :)

Yeah, I think I'd be just as mad at the person who tried to buy it, they were trying to fuck you just as much as the person trying to sell it IMO

If it sounds too good to be true, 99% of the time its a scam remember this fact and follow it. Will save you a lot of money in the long run.

I have a bitter sweet fondness for persiankitty.com myself. I remember doing one of my first "for surfers" sites back in the nineties. I submitted it to the engines, and to persiankitty. She was the first to ever list one of my surfer sites. (pk broke my cherry)

Was on a paid host, around 7.25 a gig, no clue on how to optimize pictures, nor how many to use, just slapped some banners on it, very haphazardly. Well the nice lil kitty listed my piss poor site with a god awful amount of content.

Got a unforgettable crash course in web economics in just a few days. Ok pk did not just break my cherry, pk gang raped me, but it was my fault and I did ask for it. That little lesson nearly killed me on the spot when I saw my hosting bill.

Thankfully I learned thanks to the ynot chats, and even from pk in mirc. Just in time to make some changes before I submitted to this hun site.

Sense that time pk has nearly always made me money.
