Bama 12-31-2010 04:42 PM

Nope. Whoever is in charge of their online presence has no clue what they're doing and the people they report to have no clue that this person has no clue what they're doing.

Prime example..

There is a HUGE difference between "Getting lost IN the world of Playboy's online property" & "Getting lost ON the online property"

I was on the site less than a minute and off reading some article and nowhere near a join page or enticed to find one....

Huge comeback? No. But they'll have a better year.

No, any print publication is counting the days till the end. With smart phones and tablets, their days are numbered.

the opposite. print mags may see i resurgence in the age of kindle and ipad. though pb could not get websites right so probably not these new mediums either.

BJ 12-31-2010 11:29 PM

I like flipping through magaizines, its a nice break from the web.

SmokeyTheBear 01-01-2011 01:59 AM

playboy is one of the few flailing companies that could do something huge, the name is huge and they haven't pimped out the name yet.

Based on name/branding they could probably take a huge chunk out of dating or cams if they put their weight behind it. The name playboy screams SAFE WHOLESOME PORN

iggysick 01-01-2011 02:08 AM

the short answer: no

Unless they can adapt and make the leap from print to tablet. :2 cents:

that's a bug, not a feature.

HomerSimpson 01-01-2011 09:21 AM

if Hugh is moved out of it and someone new, young with ideas steps in it could do better...
but I hope something like that will happen.... so I guess it will go downhill this year too...

SomeCreep 01-01-2011 09:40 AM

I just hope they never change GFY.

depends how you look at it , safe means they can sell it almost anywhere, unlike most porn. People feel comfortable with products they know , everyone knows playboy, they know what to expect, they know they won't be shocked. They can tie safe things into anything.

heres a rather small example of what playboy could sell and make a mint

water.. playboy branded water. bottled water is a huge biz, tons of ops for cross promotion , plus it's free advertising

cams.. what cam girl wouldnt rather say they work for playboy being a playboy girl instead of " i work for some cam sex site"

guess my point is the market has changed and the brand is increasingly obsolete.

they only people is has any resonance with any more are 40 plus.

the vibe one gets off it is nostalgic.

Your wrong. No one is going to pay for something they can get for free. Why would you buy a magazine for a tablet when you can hit their website for free? Why would a major newspaper attempt to sell subscriptions to read the news, when you can read it for free? Pay for reading a book is one thing, but no one is going to pay for news or a magazine to read. Why would they were there is much more interesting stuff online? Why pay to read Playboy's year auto review when you can WATCH Top Gear online for free?

.

increasingly obsolete if they don't step in right now and switch it up. def not obsolete yet.

If you asked the average person on the street what playboy is and you would likely get recognition and a positive vibe, you can't say that about any other adult product/site/name ( maybe viagra )

when you ask males in the prime marketing target market about porn they know bangbros, pornhub, some solo models etc.

playboy as brand is comparable to campbells soup, not apple computers.

anything can be overhauled, but i doubt it will happen.

Playboy as a brand still has the potential to find its legs. There are still enough girls getting the bunny tattooed on them, still wear a bunny necklace.

However, the problem was, and remains to be, they pretend they are not a porn company.

If you went to a butchers and he hid all the steak out the back and offered nice salads at the front, he wouldn't last long.

The brand could work...if they admitted they make porn.

So you are saying Playboy should become Hustler?

---

I don't know what they could do differently. Something life-style related.

I've seen the bunny logo on bottle water while working for them, even a couple times on the show, but the only thing close to that I have seen for sale was the Playboy Energy Drink

I told marketing they should sell a digital picture frame with all the centerfolds from the begining on it, but that never happened.

You missed the whole point of my post. No one pays to view the content. Very few would pay to see the site, but if they give it away for free they make bank on ads.

I used to get a newspaper every morning. Now with the Internet I read the news for free.

You're wrong.

Zinio does quite well. And here is an example of your example.

http://www.zinio.com/browse/publicat...ctId=500601918

Playboy just needs to step up and go digital.

Seth Manson 01-01-2011 09:19 PM

Surprise, Playboy has already gone digital

http://www.zinio.com/browse/publicat...ctId=102400094

The cool thing about digital magazines are the ads. See a product that you're interested in, click it... go to the product's webpage. Doesnt get much more targeted than that.
