WTF: Life sentence for an $11 robbery?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101230/..._pardon_kidney

I only found out about this because of the interesting circumstances behind the two sisters' release/pardon--one has to donate a kidney to the other as a precondition.

its not for 11, its for two cold body murders!

Luring someone into an ambush and getting them pistol whipped and robbed is an extremely serious crime, but shit! You can rape and murder a little kid and not even get life in prison. I wonder if they had previous convictions.

cheap skate broke state of Miss, only did it to save money.

the cost of keeping her was offsetting the profits involved in keeping her.

F american prison/justice system, when you get life for $11 bucks.

They didn't kill the men. The men were hit with guns and robbed.

$11 and no one was murdered.

Would the sentence seem any less extreme had the men had $100, or $1000 in their wallets?

I don't carry any cash in my wallet, but the amount stolen is irrelevant. The act of assaulting someone and robbing them should be punished the same regardless of the amount stolen.

Reminds me of a story I heard from a few years ago. Some poor sap in California got life in prison for stealing a slice of pizza. They have / had that 3 strike rule, and he already had 2 strikes, so that was his 3rd.

I agree with you 100%. I just wish the law took raping and killing as seriously as it apparently does assault and robbery.

Thought it would be a 3-strike thing but seems to be no previous convictions.

Those guys that lost $11 were probably a nose twitch away from being executed. but no we should feel bad about it cause it was only $11

Exactly. They had no idea how much was in their wallets. Regardless any robbery can easily escalate into a situation causing serious injury or death under certain circumstances.

Requiring a body part to be given as condition of parole is interesting too.

I knew they was black before I even opened the story. It's the same here in the uk...

I actually saw a couple of stories here the other day.

2 guys convicted of arson attacks.

1 guy... unsuccessful arson attack.. actually injured himself.... no damage to life or property.... 8 years in jail

1 guy... set a pub alight... killing 2 teenagers age about 17/18. 7 1/2 in jail.....

Guess the raced with that one.... .

Ouch. There should be a site "When 3 Strikes Goes Wrong". Though I have to say, if you have 2 strikes on you, why would you 1. Still live in CA or 2. Do ANYTHING wrong, especially any felony?

beerptrol 12-30-2010 10:19 AM

Welcome to the South. I don't know how many prison shows I've seen on msnbc and noticed there are black men serving damn near life sentences for armed robbery committed in the south. Yet there are murderers and child molesters serving less time than they are.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!

$200,000.00 a year to keep her sister alive.

Just imagine a hard working American without health insurance would have gone into bankruptcy.
