buying banners, what do i need to know?

any advice on how to go about making a good banner purchase?
what are the sizes i should buy on a 1st purchase?
how many of each size?
should i create the sales text? what about the graphics?
how many should be animated v. static?
what the best way to select a designer?
what sorts of banner designs work best?
do affiliates use the default banners or create their own or ask for custom banners?
what's a fair price for a banner package?

:)

mainstream tangible products sold via website. i will place them in my affiliate marketing program for affiliates to use and also use them in my google ad campaigns.

they're banners. buy a batch of them, use the ones you like.

most people, if they look a them at all, will see them for less than 1 second.

don't over think it./ :2 cents:

there's not a single question in that list that is over-thought.

i've contacted a couple banner designers and those are the questions that arose- how many do i want, what size, static or animated, etc.

choose a designer, buy a banner package.

Quote:

what sizes are the spaces you need to fill? Answer that question and you'll have answered the original one.

Quote:

how many of each size?
How many do you want?

Quote:

should i create the sales text?
If you want it to say something specific, then yes.

Quote:

what about the graphics?
you should probably be supplying the graphics you want to be used, such as the logo, etc....

Quote:

how many should be animated v. static?
make them all animated.

Quote:

what the best way to select a designer?
look at portfolios. choose someone that has the stuff you like.

Quote:

what sorts of banner designs work best?
this is subjective and virtually unanswerable.

Quote:

do affiliates use the default banners or create their own or ask for custom banners?
some use the standard banners, some ask for custom.

Quote:

what's a fair price for a banner package?
depends on what you want and the designer's price list. some charge $1 dollar per banner, some charge $50. There is no answer to this question.

get banners from a few different designers, then toss them all into some ad management software to determine the best one...

the one you think is the best, is often not the one that surfers click the most...:2 cents:

When ordering banners, I start with the following sizes:

88x31
120x60
120x90
120x240
120x600
125x125
160x600
180x150
234x60
240x400
250x250
300x100
300x250
300x600
336x280
468x60
720x300
728x90

This covers most of the standard banner sizes requested by affiliates. I try to order 2-3 of each to start.

It's always best to supply as many "approved" photos as possible, as well as sample sales text. I generally supply 4-5 sample text lines as well as some variable advice for the designer to lead them in the right direction of what I want. These are designers, and they don't know your product as well as you.

I've owned a design company in the past, and we charged $20-25 per banner. These days, $10-15/banner is a good price if you have a US based designer, or $3-6/banner for a non-US designer. Both have advantages. US-based will need less hand-holding on the sales text and tend to be more creative, while the non-US designers provide quality work, but need more help with the text.

I hope this helps!

Animated 120x90 (1 ea.)
Animated 120x240 (2 ea.)
Animated 125x125 (2 ea.)
Animated 150x150 (2 ea.)
Animated 160x600 (2 ea.)
Animated 180x240 (2 ea.)
Animated 320x200 (4 ea.)
Animated 350x150 (1 ea.)
Animated 468x60 (4 ea.)
Animated 468x80 (4 ea.)
Animated 468x100 (4 ea.)

Save yourself some money and find a cheap designer from the philippines. You can find some excellent designers and they are quite cheap.
