I've thought about this. Then I have thought about bringing someone who is more experienced with marketing in as a partner...but I just can't bring myself to trust anyone that much with my business not to mention give something to someone I have worked really hard to build for 3 years, alone. Then again, right person....I could tripple what I do now..who knows.

Consulting is good...but I don't think a general consultant would be...it would have to be someone who is very specific on what you're targeting. Like for me, phone sex.

I think that is a "sure" thing.

Consultants are only as good as their experience.

You can use some for specialized tasks, like completing financial projections or polishing a business plan etc.

Have you seen the IBM commercial? I think it is IBM, anyway these consultants give this complicated pitch about streamlining a company's supply chain management with just-in-time software, and other complex buzzwords.

Then, they CEO/Manager takes a deep breath and says...

"Let's do IT!" to which the consultants reply "Huh? We don't actually do what we suggest, we just suggest it."

Then it is cut to a shot of the consultants walking away laughing at the CEO's audacity.

People generally use outside consultants to cover their ass internally.

Consultants are not "magic pills," they can advise and/or evaluate specific projects or assist in certain tasks like biz/marketing plans.

They aren't going to suddenly make your business viable.

If you think they can hold your hand and skip you down the road to wealth, then you will be anally raped.

Without lube. If you "think" you need one, then most likely you need to re-evaluate the project you have chosen.
