no but me and my friends used to get the phone book and look at funny names and call people. not sure what all that was about. Of course we did this back when phones were analog and there was no such thing as caller IDs

Yeah, had a co-worker/friend had KLOS or KROQ wake me up at 6 AM for some show they had. I was not amused.

In my "young and dumb" days (and before Caller ID) we would look through the phone book and call obvious Asian names. If they answered and it was apparent that English was a second language, we would say that we were with the sewer company and that their toilet was causing a neighborhood blockage. We'd tell them to flush the toilet; pretend that we see their toilet in our "system" and have them block the toilet and do all types of crazy shit.

We'd also instruct people to operate on their phone (pretending to be a telco).

Ahh, the memories....

I don't know if it qualifies as a prank call or not, but I had set something up with the wife of one of my employees. She said we had to get him for some transgression. She called me and told me she had bought new sheets, and gave me specifics of thread count and the color.
A few days later I was talking to him on the phone, and I mentioned, by the way those new sheets are pretty nice, but I don't think I would have picked purple. At first, he said, "yeah, they are pretty nice" then he exploded"how the fuck do you know what color my sheets are?" I then put his wife on the line and she explained that they were now even.

yeah, being young before caller id was a blast pranking people.

i don't have a phone.

I think now with caller id and star 69 prank phone calls are a thing of the past. If someone calls me and I don't know te number then I let the machine get it. Now I just prank emails telling me I have won millions in Africa.
