Phở: The Vietnamese Noodle Soup

Spending time with my parents is always a great time of year for me, partly because I am treated to home-made Phở. It is a Vietnamese noodle soup pronounced like a 2 syllable word ph-uh. Any Phở kings here?

Lots of Pho here on the west coast, its one of my favorites.

I like Pho Sate the best. Noodle soup with rare flank steak.

punker barbie 12-15-2010 06:31 PM

homemade Pho sounds amazing.

I'd love a bowl. :thumbsup

d-null 12-15-2010 06:40 PM

is it really pronounced that way? I've been to many Pho restaurants and everyone I've ever heard say the word pronounces it just like it looks, only one syllable and like Pho in the word "phone" :2 cents:

I never did ask a vietnamese person how to pronounce it though

I hear a a lot of people pronounce it "FO"..(rhymes with HO).

But I think the correct way to pronounce it is similar to a 2 syllable pronunciation: ph-uhhh

One of my favorite dishes :)

We have PhoHoa here and Pho24 but nothing beats homemade pho by my Vietnamese friends' mothers. I miss it.

I make mine with Turkey broth, tons of veggies and some grilled/bbq turkey.

Got the original recipe from a old Vietnamese women... It rocks when you got the right ingredients ;-)

Phoenix 12-16-2010 08:32 AM

yeah they are all over here...good cheap food and it doesnt take long

we go every couple weeks

potter 12-16-2010 08:39 AM

We have a few good Pho places around here but I never get to them. The GF doesn't like weird asian food, she'll eat like orange chicken and shit but not much more. If I ever talk her into going someplace I usually opt to get sushi for myself over pho since it's such a rare occasion and I luvs sushi.

InfinityOscar 12-16-2010 08:43 AM

at least 3x a week :)

SiMpLe 12-16-2010 09:54 AM

My girlfriend is Vietnamese and that is her favorite dish.

Unfortunately I am picky as all hell and my taste buds don't allow me to enjoy things like that. :1orglaugh

Tom_PM 12-16-2010 11:20 AM

Never tried it. I do make ramen soup and put lots of leftover turkey in it. Then pretend it's fancy.

Looks pretty good in the pic though, should try it.
