Target blank or new or none for biller join links?

For join page links, given current standard browsers and standard browser settings, what do you all think is best for the links which go to the actual biller page? When sending the surfer from the join page in your tour, is it best to have the CCBill/Epoch/whatever biller page be a new window or the same window?

On the down side, most of the biller pages do not allow the surfer to page back to the tour, if they wish to double check something or change their billing method.

But I worry that some browsers are set in such a way that a biller link set to open in a new window will be stopped by pop-up blockers.

What do you all think?

Too business-oriented a question?

I don't know of any sites offhand that have join forms that disable the back button. If they DID, I wouldn't promote them.

Keep it in the same window.

The Target Blank link could benefit the surfer. New window can be easily closed if the surfer doesn't like it. This could be faster than pressing the "back" button.

Same window.

Yep same window. If it opens to a new window. The surfer might not know whats going on.

No sites do it. None I have ever seen anyway. But some billing scripts do it, when the surfer goes from the site join page to the biller page.

Usually same window. More people are learning CTRL+left click or middle-click these days if they want something in a new tab/window and get annoyed at another tab being opened with a normal click (I get slightly annoyed by it). And there probably are still people out there who get completely confused by new windows. That number is likely greater than those affected by the lack of the back button (which processor does this?). I guess you could test it though.

It appears I got things rolling, though - which was my intention. Honestly, Amelia, I can't recall not being able to back out of a join form.

If visitors want new windows or tabs, they'll open them themselves. Now that "signupdamnit" mentioned it, I do it all the time.

I'm on a site I like, I right click their links and open in a new tab.

Yea personally i open everything in a new window - its annoying if you just click on a link and end up somewhere you dont want to be, and cant find your way back.

Although i do have a bit of problem with having 50 windows open all the time, but i like it - i can access everything instantly.

I have to agree with the group. Best to open the payment page in the same window instead of opening a new tab. Promotes site continuity. Also, I don't think I can recall a payment page structure that I couldn't back out of to the main site.
