Crazy Thoughts On The Recent Interwebs Attacks
 

So talking with someone today, who is pretty big into politics, we got into a conversation about the whole wikileaks thing.

I heard about this, but wasn't aware (and not exactly how true this is) but a bill is supposed to be pushed to be passed on Dec 21st that imposes government protection on the internet.

Hmmm, got me thinking.... Julian Assange, is he just a pawn in this whole thing? someone to make an example out of to prove why the gov't needs to step in and take action?

We saw some pretty big sites go down today and who knows what else is possible. Will this be used against us as a fear tactic? "Don't worry citizens, the gov't has your back."

Not trying to get into conspiracies, but just seems a bit coincidental...

That or I've had to many drinks tonight :1orglaugh

I would doubt he is a pawn but it doesn't matter they will use this situation to do what you said either way.

My thoughts too. The whole wikileaks thing has been pushed on us, but in a way that makes people think they rebelling against the government by supporting it.
So yeah, this does look coincidental to the bill on Dec 21st. And I don't believe in coincidences.

Not crazy at all.

Many people, including myself, have similar thoughts regarding Wikileaks being a diversion / pretext for the government to enact new laws to "protect" the internet.

Here's something to consider ...

About a week or so ago the U.S. government seized about 80 internet domains for distributing pirated content / counterfeit goods ... and yet the U.S. government, as of this moment, has NOT seized wikileaks.org - why is that?

Furthermore, why is Wikileaks not designated as a terrorist organization?

And that's wven more strange considering that numerous other, often small obscure entities that are of little real threat, are considered terrorist organizations, and yet, to reiterate, Wikileaks isn't...

Further supports the theory that the U.S. government wants Wikileaks to remain around / stay in the news.

On a related note, from the info I've read regarding Wikileaks - nothing of any real significance has been revealed that wasn't already publicly known / widely suspected / available via FOIA.

Lastly, in my view, if Wikileaks had acquired truly secret / earth-shattering info, the site would have never seen the light of day; wouldn't be in the news.

Uh, actually they DID take wikileaks.org last week.

It was moved to wikileaks.ch and 1000 (Literally) other mirrors.

I don't think there is any question that the government wants to use wikileaks to support their campaign against net neutrality, the question is if they are just taking advantage of the current situation or if they set it up on purpose. I think the former but my friend is convinced Assange is a shill.

IMO. This IS America's Cyber 911, but no one can quite see it for what it is yet.

It will become very clear soon enough.

Nope. The wikileaks.org domain has not been seized; active status at the PIR (.org) registry.

However, about a week ago the dns provider Everydns stopped providing service for that domain and hence it's no longer resolving.

However, to reiterate, the status of the wikileaks.org domain hasn't changed in months - has not been seized.

Very strange considering the U.S. government did seized numerous other domains lately for lessor reasons, including content piracy and counterfeit goods.

Bottom line, in my view, the U.S. government helped facilitate the operators of Wikileaks and wants it to remain around - at least in the news headlines for both diversionary and strategic reasons, such as enacting new stringent laws regulating internet communications.
