Use my designer - free/favor/whatever

Why?
I have so much stuff going on at the moment that I'm not keeping up with my full time designer.

While I do have a bunch of stuff for him to do, I'm not likely to be able to write up the specs fast enough to keep him busy throughout December.

What do I need?
If you have/can provide something COMPLETELY written up with all the info/links etc that he would need from start to finish, then this is a good opportunity for you.

When I say completely, I mean that in one email there is everything he needs to know, including links to source materials, copy, links to inspirations if appropriate, link locations, etc etc. The easier to understand and more well laid out the better. In essence I need to be able to forward it to him and not put any more work into it to get good results.

What can he do for me?
He isn't a flash artist, although he is very talented. He works especially well when you can give him inspirational examples and tell him what you like about them and/or specific detailed instructions.

Banners, Tours, Galleries, Logos, Wallpapers (very good on wallpapers) adult/mainstream - I have had good results with all with him. He is much better at design than CSS (css usually takes him an extra day)

How do I get in on this?
If you want some design to take advantage of the extra time in his schedule then email me gfy at jeffrandom.com with the subject line of 'using your designer' (so my filter will pick it up).

Who/What will I choose?
That depends on how many responses I get. In general I will choose whoever/whatever project(s) that are written up correctly and that I feel like choosing.
I know it's arbitrary but as I am just giving away his services - C'est La Vie
Things to mention in your email that may help me choose you.
  • Do I know you? Do I like you?
  • Do you want to pay for this? If so how much?
  • Do you want to offer me a favor or trade? (Hard Links don't suck)

As part of being too busy to keep him supplied with writeups for projects - I will probably be too busy to check this thread a lot especially tonight.
However, if you do email me please post in the thread to let me know you sent it so that I can make sure I don't miss anyone.

Ideally I'm able to help out a few good people with their projects, and maybe even get some direct benefits.

So far only two responses, and only one of them gave enough info to even try and pass it to my designer.

While I do appreciate trying to be sensitive or tentative when responding, what's even better is if I could give him something to do without needing to edit or add to the writeup.

As I'm still keyed up from having seen an amazing show, I'm going to action the not terribly specific, but very well meaning logo design request.

If I don't get better/more responses - then I will cross post this to other boards.

So in conclusion:
Include a FULLL writeup of what you want. Call it a spec, a scope, name your deliverables - whatever - just don't make ME work hard to give you stuff.

Ok so at least one person got something out of this.

There really wasn't much direction given:

" I could use a logo for the blog. Something that will fit in with the current theme and replace the "Domain Censorship" text in the blog header."

So these 4 are what he got:

I'm heading out tomorrow for a trip and would love to have been able to give my designer projects to keep him busy until I get back.

Seriously - send the full scope with your first email - it can only help

Thanks for the intent. Generally speaking I am in the business of hiring designers - in this case giving away their services is kind of unusual for me, but I hate to let his time go to waste.

Hey, I tried to be as specific as possible... that was the only one I left open ended I think :1orglaugh

Thanks a lot for the logos, I think they turned out really nice :) and the turnaround time was really quick. I really appreciate the opportunity :thumbsup

If you're having trouble filling your designer's time let me know and I'd be happy to write up something more concrete and have him design a page for me :thumbsup
