Yep. Maybe not invalidate but it definitely makes it a count for a lot less. I'll bet almost everyone here has signed up for a sponsor based on a post such as this and been burned. As that happens you begin to get a little pickier about which endorsements you trust.

It's not very clear but it appears that he's referring to webmaster referrals. I guess if they really are paying people for affiliate referrals that's a plus because there are many scumbag programs who try to weasel out of it.

I do pretty well with them. The commission per sale isn't all that great with such a low cost service and the rebills don't flow for long, but still made roughly 5k with them this year.
