I approve of the Donald's selection for Secretary of Defense.

I am not a fan of the Donald, but I am a fan of General "Mad Dog" Mattis. He will make an excellent Secretary of Defense.

Seems ok.

After retiring from the military, General Mattis told Congress that the administration’s “policy of disengagement in the Middle East” had contributed to the rise of extremism in the region. The United States, he told lawmakers in 2015, needs to “come out from our reactive crouch and take a firm, strategic stance in defense of our values.”

But in some important policy areas, General Mattis differs from Mr. Trump, who has been filling the top ranks of his national security team with hard-liners. General Mattis believes, for instance, that Mr. Trump’s conciliatory statements toward Russia are ill informed. General Mattis views with alarm Moscow’s expansionist or bellicose policies in Syria, Ukraine and the Baltics. And he has told the president-elect that torture does not work.

Despite his tough stance on Iran, General Mattis also thinks that tearing up the Iran nuclear deal would hurt the United States, and he favors working closely with allies to strictly enforce its terms.

There is a ''little problem'' ...
Quote:

To take the job, Mattis will need Congress to pass legislation to bypass a federal law stating that defense secretaries must not have been on active duty in the previous seven years. Congress has granted a similar exemption just once, when Gen. George C. Marshall was appointed to the job in 1950.

So, the nomination will be controversial and the confirmation process lengthy. This may just be diversionary to allow the other nominations to slip through rubber stamped.

This guy seems like a very good fit for the job. At last he seems to have made a good choice.

What right does the West have to tell the ME how to live?

Muslims spit on our values. Like democracy, equality, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom, etc. If they want to live as if it's still 1,000 AD. Fine then live like that. Just don't expect for the West to come to your aid when you start killing each other or have natural disasters. We will buy your oil, so you can afford to buy our arms so you can kill each other more effectively.

We allow Girls to choose their own Husbands, some Muslims sell their daughters. Some kill their daughters for marrying the wrong person.

We allow Gays to Marry, some Muslims hang them.

We prosecute rapists, some Muslims prosecute the victims.

Pull out of the East and let them rot. Should they hit us, go in with Cruise Missile.

Cincinnati: President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday that he will nominate US Marine retired general James Mattis, who oversaw US war efforts in the Middle East, to be his defense secretary.

"We are going to appoint 'Mad Dog' Mattis as our secretary of defense," Trump told a large crowd in Cincinnati, Ohio, referring by nickname to the tough-talking general who headed the US Central Command, giving him authority over troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I didn't know this and find it rather interesting. However, in this case I believe it will be a quick deal. Both sides seem to think this is a good choice.

You would think they would want someone with proper experience to hold this post, and you would be hard pressed to find someone with more experience then a recent general.

A Marine general is ideal too if you think about it. The Marine Corps operate in all areas - land, air, sea.

you failed to read:

In 1998, in an interview with the Parisian publication Le Novel Observateur, Zbigniew Brzezinski, adviser to President Carter, admitted that he had been responsible for instigating aid to the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan which caused the Soviets to invade. In his own words:

According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan on 24 December 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise. Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the President in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention. (5,1,6)

did you directly make the soviets invade? no...are you responsible for the situation in avghanistan? absolutely...but I understand that you need any reason at all to disqualify the 20 million dead you are responsible for...well not you but the US gov and its """"""""""""""""""Defense"""""""""""""""""""" budget
