Software for member's area

What software would you use to build a member area?
Would a simple WP do with the appropriate plugins?

I'm thinking about self hosted solution and management content only, no Nats like to handle billing.

Thanks for you hints ;)

elevatedx ?

Yes Elevatedx is GREAT. Like having another person working for you. I would only advise that you get someone like Zuzana Designs set it up for you as that can be a bit time consuming and I think you have to be a bit techy minded to do it. But...once it's set up easy as anything to run.

Well, it's quite simple : I have movie content & I need a solution to set up a member's area.

The simpliest/cheapest way would be so use a WP or any other CMS to schedule update, upsales, etc. But I was wondering if they are other solutions around.

Elevatedx looks good, any other hint?

Mechbunny's Tube Script might be an option for you as well, as it has a membership option built right into it:

Paid Membership system with support for CCBill, Zombaio, or NATS (Your biller not listed? No problem! We'll add it!)

Some people use our system as both a paytube type of thing, or as just a CMS for /members/

Ultimately, it's a tube script but it does what you need on a paysite which is host images and videos.

actualy the easiest way would be to just make a directory password protected with htaccess then make a webpage with your content and out in that folder, find a simple password management script on the web and your in business....the only thing that takes any time is making your members page

The easiest way would be to install Word Press in 5 minutes - it can do everything one needs to start a paysite, for free.

It's not that simple to make such a decision.

If you have a content worth a lot, you simply can not afford to use Wordpress and get all your content stolen due to some WP flaw. Then, how would you do the payment processing with Wordpress? Do all the adult payment processors you use have a Wordpress plugin? If not, how much will it cost to develop a custom solution? What will happen if the website goes bigger? How would you scale it up with Wordpress? It's not always that straightforward.

Using Wordpress for a member's area is not always an option. I agree you could use it for something non-critical. Depending on your actual needs, you should always think about using a paid solution first, if your budget allows it. Not saying that some paid solutions are better then free, just because you have paid for using them. Most of the time, paid solutions have payment processing already implemented. If not, the author will probably implement it for free. Sometimes it's less expensive to pay upfront, then to start for free and create new expenses that just add up.

With serious project, you need to start seriously.

I use Wordpress for initial site, and then members go to another installed Wordpress once they purchase their subscription. Essentially it's double the work. And I am only doing this because I don't have the time to study Elevated X's top notch software. And I'm cheap.

I store the videos on an Amazon server and just embed the videos on the member's site.

There are a lot of options. KVS, Mechbunny... They are always there to help.
