Virginia looking to expand it's immigration law

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...070905518.html

The Justice Department's lawsuit against Arizona's controversial immigration law won't stop Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart's campaign to bring a similar law to Virginia.

If anything, said Stewart (R-At Large), he will push harder to get legislation passed at the state level that would enhance police officials' power to capture, detain and deport illegal immigrants and create specific Virginia penalties for illegal immigrants.

"I think the Obama administration has made a strategic blunder," Stewart said. "The Justice Department is going to have egg on its face when its case is dismissed. Arizona is on very firm legal footing, and the administration is just trying to intimidate Arizona."

Last month, Stewart launched the Virginia Rule of Law Campaign to rally support for Virginia immigration legislation. Stewart said Virginia needs to follow in Arizona's footsteps, even if it sends President Obama's administration after the commonwealth.

"I hope the Justice Department sues Virginia, as well," he said. "I hope they have so many targets that they are unable to focus on Arizona. . . . Every state that supports Arizona should implement a similar law to make it impossible for the [federal government] to focus on any one state or jurisdiction."

Prince William has received national attention for its crackdown on illegal immigration. The county's law, enacted in 2007 and modified in 2008, requires that police officers check the immigration status of all people arrested on suspicion of violating a state or local law

OK< they've been doing this for 3 years now, has anyone heard of any racial profiling?

News like this does actually effect our business
The current administration has had an increase in obscenity investigations / prosecutions over what Bush was doing, this was brought up at a recent seminar according to XBiz. We need to keep up on what Obamanation is doing and how he is not keeping his promises

OK, you want to bash Reagan
Since President Ronald Reagan first helped usher in the international ban on commercial whaling, every American President has reasserted our nation's strong leadership in the fight to save the whales. Guess what the Obamanation is doing, lifting that ban

Personally I think the goal is to snuff out sites that subscribe to opposing views, it may start with obscenity, as a way of getting to what they really want.

Not false, neither is the disrespect you have for her ship when you put laughing icons after it, I'm proud of what she's doing, like aid to the philipines that got her a humanitarian medal, have you ever done anything that would get you a medal by helping out some one? So keep your remarks to yourself and focus on me, you have a better chance of debating me than being in the same building as my daughter!!

He gets facts from me and changes the subject, like blaming Bush or saying we would have been worse off if McCain was in there. Mute points, we don't know that it would have been worse and Bush isn't the president, just because Obamanation can't take credit for his FUCK UPS?

I grew up in Prince william county. A few years ago they cut off free public services to the illegals. Basically drove them out of the county because why? they couldn't free load anymore.

unconstitutional to deny it to citizens yes.

the PWC bill has also sent home a rather large number of immigrants, but has created a overload on the local jails to sever over population.

Everyone else has similar laws and harsher punishments, why should the US have open borders and take care of everyone?

We can't even take care of our own.

Are you kidding me? Where you sleeping when they made 2257 all fucked up? You want to bitch about whatever but as far as porn all the cases we are looking at started during bush. If you think Palin in 2012 and then porn will be left alone your kidding yourself. All the big take downs have been during republican admins Nixon, then Reagan. W would of been a big hit because porn was job one for Ashcroft then 911 happened. The only reason porn exploded on line was because Janet Reno a liberal thought it was waste of resources to go after and would rather go after cp guys. Why do you think all the old timers are democrats because they actually got arrested for what we take for granted. Wanting these hard righters could really bite us in the ass and you dont get a free pass because you supported them. They see us all as one group, porn scum dont kid yourself.

Also there is enough shit you can bang obama about please stop using the bullshit talking points.

Yes there is more than enough to hang on Obama, but what i said was investigations are up and they are

As for the Obama administration?s stance on obscenity prosecutions, Obenberger was frank.

?We?ve got more to worry about,? Obenberger said. ?Obama is not getting rid of the [obscenity] task force. The three members of the task force are emboldened because they know he?s afraid of getting rid of them. He thinks that the Bible thumpers who value the task force will vote for him another term.?

?There?s more obscenity prosecutions than there were four years ago,? he said.

If I remember right, little over half of the produce workers in the us are illegal, tell me, do you think we would have a problem getting legal immigrants for those jobs?

so figure half of the 2.5 million produce workers in the US and theres what 30 million illegal aliens, what are the rest doing? About 3% of the illegal aliens are working picking lettuce and what ever, the rest are a drain on the economy

And I never said anything other than obscenity prosecutions are going up, I never said whos to blame, other than it's under Obama, you know the guy you wanted in office because it would be better for the business, well, sorry to burst your bubble, it's not.

SO tell me, is the business of adult better now than it was 18 months ago?

Bush is to blame, you dont make a mess and then once your not president its not fault. Just like how you guys blamed clinton not bush for 911. At the time 911 happened, clinton wasnt president but no one was saying clinton isnt president now we cant blame him. Its bush presidency its bushs fault.

Here is some information my quick Google search provides me with.

From an article on Politico from July 2009

"Since Obama?s inauguration, prosecutors have pressed on with pending obscenity cases and accepted guilty pleas in one high-profile prosecution brought in Pittsburgh. However, there have been no announcements of new adult obscenity indictments, a trend that Justice Department officials declined to discuss, though they did note that federal prosecutions for child pornography have continued apace. "

This entire article talks about how Obama and his administration are not really making obscenity prosecutions a priority.

Here is another recent article from a conservative group who is pissed because it appears that Obama has gone soft on porn.

Another article here from a few months ago about Congress grilling Holder for his lack of obscenity prosecutions.

Here is an interesting op/ed piece about someone complaining that Obama has done nothing.
From that article we get this quote about Obama and his obscenity task force: "The U.S. Justice Department has an Obscenity Prosecution Task Force led by Brent Ward, who is able and committed. But the FBI has refused to provide agents to investigate adult obscenity cases and none of 92 U.S. Attorneys have filed a case."

One more from Politico where they talk about how Obama has had very little interest in perusing porn, but that instead he is having these task forces use those resources to fight child porn.
From that article: "In the wake of President Barack Obama's election in 2008, some in the adult-film business expected prosecutions like that of Stagliano would be abandoned and that the unit which brought the case, the Obscenity Prosecution Task Force, would be shuttered. That has not happened, despite a tradition that a Democratic administrations have put more emphasis on child pornography and less on adult pornography."

followed by: ""With everything that's going on in the world, they're taking on the adult industry?" asked Sirkin incredulously. "There is no longer the common problems that once existed with adult bookstores on every corner. It's a completely different, kind of self-contained home marketplace."

Are there more convictions that under Bush? That might be because Obama did finish up the cases that were in action. One, for example, was a big case against Extreme Associates that had been going on since 2003, but finally came to a close in 2009.

I looked and looked and find no information that he is increasing prosecutions. I'm not saying that the people on this panel were fear mongering in order to drum up business fro their services, but I just don't see any evidence that what they are saying is accurate.

As with any subject, you're going to get conflicting stories, most of the info you got is a year old and yes mine is based on an article on XBiz. What was said on XBiz made sense , but as anything in politics happens, you'll might never get a straight answer. And any graphs will be grouped together with underage convictions. It never made sense to me that Obama would go after porn, I mean it's not in his agenda and he has little time for thing not in his agenda, you know like generating jobs.
