What you need to know about ground beef.
The word "beef" simply means that it comes from cows. It says nothing about what part of the cow it comes from. All fast food beef is made like this:

Thats fucking nasty. They put a live one in there too.
|
When the stomach contents spurted out, I had to stop watching. I still love me some cow, though.

I am scared to click
|
How do they remove the bones, hair, teeth, feet, etc.. (aka hotdog meat)?

You can goto any decent butcher pick a cut of beef and tell them to ground it, num num num delicious ;)
|
That last one was a Horse.
|
that machine isn't for processing human food :2 cents:
|
I read in Fastfood Nation, there is an allowable SMALL percentage of hair, bones, dirt, etc. on ground beef. You can't really avoid getting that quite frankly. But I have no problem with cow innards. They are quite tasty,

Yea i think there was at least one cow but i think i saw a sheep in there and definitely a horse at the end, im thinking this isn't being processed for human consumption too. But who knows.

I don't even think it's for dogfood, they wouldn't put hair, and feces into dogfood either.
Probably for fertilizer or just for disposal purposes. |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meat_and_bone_meal
Meat and bone meal (MBM) is a product of the rendering industry. It is typically about 50% protein, 35% ash, 8-12% fat, and 4-7% moisture. It is primarily used in the formulation of animal feed to improve the amino acid profile of the feed. Feeding of MBM to cattle is thought to have been responsible for the spread of BSE (mad cow disease). In most parts of the world, MBM is no longer allowed in feed for ruminant animals. However, in some areas, including the US, MBM is still used to feed monogastric animals. It is widely used in the United States as a low-cost meat in dog food and cat food. [1] In Europe, some MBM is used as ingredients in petfood but the vast majority is now used as a fossil-fuel replacement for renewable energy generation, as a fuel in cement kilns, landfilling or incineration. Meat and bone meal has around two thirds the energy value of fossil fuels such as coal; the UK particular widely uses meat and bone meal for the generation of renewable electricity. This was particularly prominent after many cattle had to be slaughtered during the BSE crisis. Meat and bone meal is increasingly used in cement kilns as an environmentally sustainable replacement for coal. |
Those carcasses are pretty well drained, it looks like. Not much liquid left in them.

Enough to turn you off meat forever

I was tagging along with a guy that is sales rep for a chemical company and we went to a pig processing plant. We turned the corner and 3-4 fat ass pigs laying in the hot sun on the concrete in the dock area with their backs split open. I asked why they were on the ground and not inside getting processed and he said that when they die during transportation on the truck they cant use them for food so they throw them outside and then someone scoops them up at the end of the day and they use them for other shit. Didn't ask what the other shit was as seeing 3 big ass pigs on the ground split open was enough for me that day.

I also like horror movies :) |
I don't know much about ground beef.
Somebody said they put a live animal in that thing? That's unfortunate. I think an animal should be euthanised with a needle or something before the metal machine. |
Dirty Jobs has a couple of episodes about animal rendering, actually pretty interesting.
|
That animal shredder looks like something out of a SAW movie.
..wanna play a game? |
