Attitude is everything

Just a couple of great quotes that keep me inspired :winkwink:

Quote:

“I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. Attitude keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitude is right, there is no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.”

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.

I had never heard that first one before.

Bravo.

My family keeps me motivated. Mouths to feed.

My ego keeps me motivated. Goals to accomplish.

Helping others keeps me motivated. No better feeling than giving someone a hand up when they need it.

?Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us.?

The Helen Keller quote is spot on.

Here's another ...

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

epitome 08-04-2009 12:21 AM

The Attitude quote by Charles Swindoll has always been my favorite, too. The funny thing is that I first heard it at a Market America seminar back in the day when a friend was trying to bring me into their cult. The version I've always read is:

Quote:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.
The best inspirational speech I've ever heard, which really wasn't even a speech, but rather the speech a newspaper columnist would have liked to have given, and was later adapted to song, is 'Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen'

Quote:

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ?99

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.

The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience?I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.

But trust me, in 20 years you?ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can?t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked?.

You?re not as fat as you imagine.

Don?t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum.

The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don?t be reckless with other people?s hearts, don?t put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don?t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you?re ahead, sometimes you?re behind?the race is long, and in the end, it?s only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements. Stretch Don?t feel guilty if you don?t know what you want to do with your life?the most interesting people I know didn?t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don?t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you?ll miss them when they?re gone.
Maybe you?ll marry, maybe you won?t, maybe you?ll have children, maybe you won?t, maybe you?ll divorce at 40, maybe you?ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary?what ever you do, don?t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either ? your choices are half chance, so are everybody else?s.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can?don?t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it?s the greatest instrument you?ll ever own..

Dance?even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don?t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they?ll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on.

Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you?ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don?t expect anyone else to support you.

Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don?t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it.

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen?

hilarious! :1orglaugh

a quote from me... "do what's required of you..."

Relentless 08-04-2009 06:45 AM

"Death is inevitable... Life is not."

Every living thing will eventually die, but think about how unlikely it is that you would ever exist in the first place. How many generations of humans going all the way back to the days of cavemen had to struggle and perservere just so you could have a chance to exist? How many trillions of variables had to roll exactly the right outcome in the right order from the big bang until today... All so you could have 50 or 75 years of life?

When you keep that in the back of your mind it is always east to stay motivated. Some caveman fought a fucking bear with a stick and WON or your lineage would not exist. Two planetary objects a billion miles apart collided so you could exist... and you feel too tired to do something today?!

Live Relentlessly.

I used to run a sales team of 10 salesman. We would hit the phones once a week to generate the appointments we needed for the week and then get out there and sell.

One guy had the attitude that everyone he spoke to would buy, another had the attitude no one would buy. I sacked the second one because he did not make sales, the first one was always making them.

Life it about how you approach it.

"never let 'em see you sweat"

I've experienced this one first hand in a big way, and learned my lesson. Goes back to the quote about "90% is how you react".

No matter how right you are about something, the guy who is cooler under pressure will come out on top, even if he is dead wrong....and a conniving, undermining scumbag. Yeah, I still think about it.
