Newb question: What is ACDSee?

And why do I need it? I checked out the website and I'm not really understanding what the hype is. What exactly can it help me with that my current programs can't?

After Shock Media 03-14-2009 04:41 PM

It is a very kick ass photo browsing program that has batch abilities that smoke many applications - on speed and resources.

$5 submissions 03-14-2009 04:42 PM

What ASM said. It's an established graphics browsing program

baddog 03-14-2009 04:43 PM

I remember using that years ago. Don't remember why I stopped using it.

Sly 03-14-2009 04:45 PM

So it's worth the $50?

Also, I saw two different version on the site. Which one is the one I want?

Browsing and selecting pictures with the basic Windows interface is a pain in the ass, so if this improves that I can see it being worth the investment.

After Shock Media 03-14-2009 04:47 PM

I always felt it was worth the cost.

ladida 03-14-2009 05:03 PM

You might like irfanview also. It's free.

Finike 03-15-2009 04:22 AM

StuartD 03-15-2009 04:34 AM

I remember using acdsee back in my bbs days, many many moons ago. It's been around forever.

halfpint 03-15-2009 04:39 AM

bobby666 03-15-2009 06:16 AM

still remember using version 3. ages ago

american pervert 03-15-2009 06:19 AM

get for batch resizing, rotation, conversion, and a very light program.

HorseShit 03-15-2009 06:32 AM

i STILL haven't tried it

wyldblyss 03-15-2009 06:47 AM

Great for all of the things listed above but my favorite is being able to drag/drop reorder pics. Ever get a set that is named out of order. Where she starts naked, gets clothed, then naked again, then clothed? Well you just load the folder and drag/drop them in the correct order and then rename them in the corrected order. It is such a time saver.

Are you a photographer or do something else that involves working with pictures a lot? If so, this soft is invaluable. I can't even imagine not having it. Batch processor it has - you can't place value on that. Been using it for years and it's my most used software.

Same here BD. I think we stopped using it when we reformatted a HD and never reinstalled it. :(

Note to Hubby.... Find the software and reinstall it... Rake the leaves, get the lawn tractor ready for spring, stop nagging me......

Denny 03-15-2009 08:28 AM

i use irfanview :thumbsup

Horny Dude 03-15-2009 10:52 AM

Love ACDSee, best one out there. Check your local Fry's, they usually sell it with a rebate that makes it free.

Sosa 03-15-2009 10:56 AM

Big time saver that easily resizes / renames entire folders etc. Saves a ton of time and quicker than photoshop in most cases.

Beaver Bob 03-15-2009 11:42 AM

love ACDSee, worth the money.

Sly 03-15-2009 12:56 PM

They have a photo editor and a photo manager. Which one are you guys talking about?

Photo Manager, that's the main product known as ADCSee. Even this manager has a basic photo editor with basic features (99% of your photoshop use involves these feature). It also has hands down the best red eye removal tool I have worked with. You don't need the editor, which is advanced version of the basic editor that comes as part of ACDSee. But the manager is beyond ridiculous help in otherwise mundane tasks that would take too long to do.

Sly 03-15-2009 01:19 PM

Okay, I just bought it. Thanks guys.

fris 03-15-2009 01:48 PM

photo manager 2009
photo editor 2009
photo manager pro

papill0n 03-15-2009 02:01 PM

Wow Acdsee huh - havent looked at that app for years. I think I might need to run it again.

shermo 03-15-2009 02:10 PM

Going to have to check this out! Sounds like a great tool that can do the same tasks that I use multiple apps for. Thanks!

Maxi Caballero 03-15-2009 02:35 PM

I use it I love it would be lost with out it

Sly 03-15-2009 02:37 PM

Yeh... okay... so I've been using this program for literally five minutes and I've already completed a task that usually takes about 30. This is going to save me three hours of work today alone...

I feel stupid for not checking this out sooner. Worth the $50? Hell yeh.

Sid70 03-15-2009 02:39 PM

it stands for AC/DC you just spelled it wrong, noob!

DarkJedi 03-15-2009 02:45 PM

ACDSee is the best software to view photos with.

I'm still using v2.4 and loving it.

:thumbsup

pornask 03-15-2009 02:52 PM

batch resizing, batch renaming (with some amazing options), batch rotating, batch converting.... I'd be lost without these tools that make the process extremely simple and quick. This tool is worth every penny for anyone who works with images a lot. Its use reaches far beyond images though. It also helps that they are a Canadian company. I met with them at PMA convention in Vegas and was glad to see my suggestions implemented in the following release. As busy photographer, I knew exactly what is really important to make your life easier.

Elli 03-15-2009 03:00 PM

I used it for years but am currently looking for something with similar batching abilities but better jpg compression results.

MaDalton 03-15-2009 03:37 PM

cant live without ACDSee. i tried and i failed

Dirty Dane 03-15-2009 05:05 PM

The pro version rules.

Rochard 03-15-2009 05:11 PM

I use this daily for moving pictures around and looking for certain pictures. Can't live without it.
