FACT: You've failed as a parent if your kid joins the military

Doesn't matter what the reasons are for joining, they all come back to bad parenting. Every single one of them.

No money for college? Your fault for not saving up for the past 18 years or looking into student loans and grants.

Kid needs military for direction in life? Should have gotten that at home.

Wants to have fun blowing the enemy away? congrats, you raised a serial killer.

the military is for losers. we do need them and i'm thankful they are there, just like i'm thankful there is someone to fry up my cheeseburger at McDonalds.

Why would I want to debate what you said? It's your usual brand of useless inflammatory troll tripe, and it's about as transparent as anything else you've ever spewed. Are you somehow under the impression that it's worth responding to? :1orglaugh

Btw, how much are you betting?

most parents fail @ parenting anyhoo, not like they take a test and pass it & get to have kids u know.

no new news here eh

stickyfingerz 08-05-2008 09:03 AM

Hmm then there is always the option that the kid was raised REALLY well raised to love their country, raised to have a sense of duty to the country they love, raised to feel it their personal responsibility to give back to the country they love. Why am I wasting my time responding to trollholio? :1orglaugh

IncaD 08-05-2008 09:04 AM

COMMON SENSE: It's better to work in the safety of an office to pay off student loans than to get bullets shot at you in exchange for free college.

this isn't WW2. nobody in their right mind is joining the military in it's current climate simply out of patriotism.

ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

alright then, i think it'll go get bullets shot at me in the name of serving the great President Bush and his ficticious wars.

That's a pretty dumb statement but then again there are a lot of real idiots out there so almost nothing amazes me anymore.

I know a guy in the Dutch Airforce and he was just picked to be trained to fly their F-16's. Is he a deadbeat loser too?

TheDoc 08-05-2008 09:24 AM

I wanted to go into the Military since I was a kid, if anything - going the other direction almost stopped me from doing what I really wanted. I quit college, which was paid for and still went into the Marines.

A good parent is someone who teaches the kid about America, patriotism and its real values, letting them know it's an honor to serve our young nation.

What I got out of the Marines, no college could have ever replace. Starting with, no school loans and the balls to step out and start my own business. If I would have stayed in College, I would have taken the first steps of being a Cop - not exactly the direction of the Porn Industry.

IncaD 08-05-2008 09:38 AM

listen, i'm not saying good things don't come out of serving in the military. what i'm saying is that the self development gained through the military should have taken place at home so that parents don't have to rely on the military to turn their wild boys into men.

which is why i said, if your kid joins the military, you are a failed parent 99% of the time. the other 1% would be like the McDonalds burger flipper who knew he was going to go on to become the regional manager.

but when you look at successful parents who have good jobs and have taught their kids well, virtually none of them have kids in the military. it's extremely rare.

Most the people I know that went into the Military, did it because they wanted to serve this country. Only a few talked about college, or bad times at home, or just wanted to get out of a town. Most, loved what they did, had total honor in it, and actually - most are still in.

So based on what you are saying, every person that reenlists 2-3+ times, they must have had amazing parents, taught them some serious country values, honor, ect. Then if we add in the officers. Most went to ROTC, loved it, went to officers school, loved it - and stay in for years - making it a life long job.

I'm sure in some poor, shit areas of the country, people join the military for all types of reasons. But for the majority of us, we did it for our Country.

I think your understanding of why people fight and die for this country, is a little off.

You probably aren't American.

Sausage 08-05-2008 09:58 AM

Someone has to keep his fat lazy coward ass safe. Thank god for 'failed parenting' then ?

PornMogul 08-05-2008 10:01 AM

Ive always thought that wars (especially the iraq war) are fought for the leaders entertainment and enjoyment. I think bush and cheney sit in the situation room and just watch some war videos and laugh for their own entertainment. I think the original poster is right. If your kid joins the military, you fucked up.

tony286 08-05-2008 10:02 AM

My cousin is going back in because on the outside he makes about 13 bucks an hour without health insurance.

Lee 08-05-2008 10:41 AM

Whilst I dont entirely agree with your statement I must admit that if any of my kids said they were going into the mlitary I would try to talk them out of it. But thats due to my fears for their safety and how I perceive it. The reality is they are more likely to be killed driving home from a nightout (pray it doesnt happen of course).

munki 08-05-2008 10:45 AM

My lil bro is entering the service... and for none of the reasons originally cited. He wants to be a fireman, has been studying and training in fire science and general construction for years. Military service is going to allow him aggressive hands on training in his chosen profession before returning to civilian life and entering fire academy.

Defiance Inc 08-05-2008 11:02 AM

That's funny, cause everyone I met when I enlisted was poor (e.g. from such a small town the job market couldn't support them), or wanted to travel, get a good life skill/training. All of them were good people. I've met more shitbag, backstabbing assholes in the private industry than I ever did in the military. But, according to you're theory, all the shitbags etc. go in the military...
Your dumbass post proved my point.

Luscious Media 08-05-2008 11:02 AM

I joined for the pussy. It was the uniform...worked every time.

That is a crock of poo.

"America" is dead and gone, so I'm not sure what "real values" you speak of. There is no honor in dying for what is called America these days. You are simply going to fight wars over greed. Soldiers are dying over money. Not "freedom" as it's sold to us. When was the last time we had to fight for freedom? And I'm talking OUR freedom, not someone elses.

At one time this was a great country. It did have values and men did fight and die for the right reasons. But those days are long gone. Never coming back, even with a smooth talking black president.

A good parent is someone who teaches their child about the WORLD and not just America. Teach them to be worldly and how to think for themselves and not eat the shit that is shoveled to them. A good parent teaches their child how to avoid war and not to fall victim to the white mans greed, lies and war machine. A good parent teaches their child that they are not limited by the borders and bullshit of the USA.

Though I do appreciate those of you who do serve, I hope my child never joins the military. Someone has to serve and more power to you all for doing it. It's just sad that none of you are fighting for anything that matters.

I have no idea why you guys are ripping on him, what he is saying is at least partially true... military isn't exactly the best job to have, it probably beats flipping burgers for $8/hr, but not by much... risking your life for chump change isn't exactly smart no matter how you try to spin it... reality is that most people join military because they don't have anything better going for them at the time...
