That's how we used to roast pigs when I was a kid.

This what I own:

PantieZ, my dad is an expert at roasting pigs, and his secret, was he didn't put salt on it. Pigs are the only animal which don't need any salt added.

Give it a try, and don't put salt, I'm sure you will like it.

That is one bad ass BBQ. I have some questions, if you don't mind me asking.

Is that a 55 gallon drum cut in half and welded together to make it longer?
What are you using for a motor and drive system to turn the spit?

I think I am going to have one of my guys weld me up some material real soon. I have been wanting to make something like this for a long time.

BTW, that looks delicious :thumbsup

It depends on the fire, but five hours. The only problem compared to your method is that you have to flip the pig, if you want the bottom roasted. If not it will still get cooked, but it will be too tender. The Skin in particular will be tender if you don't flip it.

With your method, the metal bar cooks the inside, so it has it's drawbacks aswell.

LaCajaChina, cooks the big evenly, no need to worry about haveing to much charcoal on the right side or the left side of the box.

its a motor from a cars windowiper and a car battery for power supply
the rest of the mechanics are thrown together and/or selfmade :)

Fucker Five 07-30-2008 09:58 AM

There were a couple of times I got stuck cranking the spit and the homemade ice cream bucket.

To the people complaining, saying disgusting, etc. etc. ... wtf did you think you were going to see with a title like "most tasty pig", nice, lean slices of tenderloin?

HorseShit 07-30-2008 10:59 AM

The pig looks pretty young and tight

Thanks for the tips and a closer look at the rig itself. :thumbsup

One more question....what is in the middle of the pigs back to hold it in place?

I can't wait to get me a pig on the spit and baste it with my special spices. I will be sure to post up some images once we get this thing together.

nikad 07-30-2008 11:11 AM

Looks very good ( do you eat the head? )

Supz 07-30-2008 11:15 AM
