Try not racing in future.

Unless you are dumb...

WarChild 03-20-2008 10:06 AM

You're racing on the highway in Toronto? Don't they have seriously strict street racing laws there now? You might not want to play around if that's the case.

Years ago I was driving from Vegas back to Phoenix and decided to take the highway route..... A Porsche came out of no where, speeding, and I kept up with him for a bit. We were in the middle of no where so it was fun. But after a while I slowed down a bit and lost him.....

Turns out he got nailed by the highway patrol.

yeah, now racing is limited to 150km/hr haha unless you want to lose your license and car on the spot.

I was not driving fast, only about 130, but lot's of in and outs

lol

That's so cool. I'm sure if I was in my car with my kids, I'd be impressed.

Just like this couple, I bet they were seriously impressed.

What do you drive?

You realize street racing is illegal and kills and ruins family's right?

keep it on the track.

And you should learn from the speeding tickets before you end up like a lot of other street racers. dead.

You are extremely lucky you were only going 40 over the limit.

50 over in Toronto and you can say good bye to your car and licence.

Street Racing in Toronto is extremely dumb.

Anthony 03-20-2008 10:18 AM

Here, let me print it out for you in case you don't click the link.

Charges laid in alleged street racing deaths

CTV.ca News Staff

Two people are facing charges for the alleged street racing death of a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary.

Marco Gasparro, 19, of Richmond Hill, is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death. The 21-year-old driver of another other car is in critical condition in Sunnybrook Hospital. Charges are pending against him.

Robbie Manchester, 47, and his wife Lisa, 43, were pronounced dead at the scene, just blocks from their home. They were returning home after celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary.

On Saturday evening, two red-coloured Honda vehicles were travelling in Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto when one of the cars struck allegedly struck the Manchester's vehicle.

Police say the two Hondas were travelling 150 km/h in the 80 km/h zone.

The couple leaves behind a seven-year-old daughter, who was not in the car when the accident occurred.

Neighbours say news that her parents have died will leave the young girl "totally devastated."

Street racing incidents have become more common in recent months. Last week Prime Minister Stephen announced plans to crack down on the dangerous practice, saying he will make it a criminal offence.

The new law is expected to be introduced in Parliament this spring.

Street racers who are convicted of dangerous driving face a maximum sentence of years under current laws. The maximum penalty jumps to 10 years if someone is injured, and 14 if someone is killed.

130-100=30

120 being the complete norm, no one will stop you if you go 120.

The funeral for a friend's daughter's boyfriend (and the daughter is still recovering) was yesterday. He was speeding.

While texting? Please tell me you were texting.

I love a woman that can multi-task at high speed.

MaDalton 03-20-2008 10:27 AM

i wonder why they build cars that go 250 km/h - we should drive around in golf carts, much more secure.

well, as long Raja isn't driving

Come drive in Victoria, Australia... fines start at 3km/hr (that's three kilometres) over the limit, 30km/hr over the limit and you'll lose your licence immediately, texting is also illegal.

Stick to the track if you want to race.

Oh yeah for sure! You need all your concentration playing Mario Andretti on the public highway.

I really can't be too hard on you, I had a car up to 135mph, that's 217.26kph to you.

Oh wait, I fucking can, I was on a goddamn track. Not on the public roads putting other peoples lives in danger with my "IN and Out" racing.

So you're saying you wised up on the texting? Good, I suggest you keep it that way.

People texting while driving have caused a lot of fatal crashes, and it will continue to happen until what mostly amounts to young people getting a clue.

Everyone has had fun speeding at one time or another. I know I did when I was in my 20's, as was reflected by the number of speeding tickets I got. (who among us can buy a fast production sports car with t-roofs and NOT take it out for a "spin" :D )

...but with age hopefully comes wisdom, and you realize that it's better to just get where you're going alive rather than in a hurry.

You should see me put on a full face of make-up in the rear view mirror with one hand and hold my little dog with the other. It's fabulous.

Give me a break. She was doing 30 km over the speed limit. Hardly racing.

Police have a rule here where they don't waste their time pulling you over for speeding on the 100 series highways unless you are doing more than 15 km over. The normal flow of traffic is about 120. She was doing 10 km more than that.

Speeding slightly is not "racing".

Do you feel a speeding car passing you going in and out of traffic racing another car is okay?

I don't see anywhere that says she was racing another car. It's hard to "race" anyone on the 100 series highways if you are only going 130 km/h, as you will still be getting passed by transport trucks.

I think she is throwing the term "racing" around very loosely.

If she was doing 130 on one of the 80 km roads then that would be a different story.

sure, cops pay less attention to me and i can pace from a few hundred yards without risking a ticket.

I think racing is when two people try to look cool and go ahead of each other for exactly that purpose.

I was driving in a relaxed mode and this guy was trying to be a show off and started "dancing" around my car with his in and outs. I wasn't really in the mood for that so I let him "win" lol. And that's when he got pulled over.

That's why I said she is throwing around the term "racing" very loosely. No offense to her, but I'm guessing english is not her first language.

She also said this, which doesn't even make sense:

"yeah, now racing is limited to 150km/hr haha unless you want to lose your license and car on the spot."

She is obviously using the word "racing" in place of the word "speeding". As I said before, there is a big difference between speeding and racing. A car in front of her got pulled over for speeding. She wasn't actually racing that car.

130 km/h on a 100 series highway is in no way, shape or form RACING.

You intentionally keep missing the point that she stated herself, she was IN AND OUT of traffic, RACING. Speeding is one thing, everyone speeds, to say they don't, they are lying. Cutting IN AND OUT of traffic racing someone, EVEN IF THEY ARE DOWING 130kph is still fucking idiotic and dangerous.

Sorry, everyone speeds, but driving like an asshole puts everyone on the road lives in danger.
