Also take into account the room you are going to be putting it in. If its a room that gets a lot of sun I would go with a LCD just to cut down the reflections. I bought a plasma and love it but the room I have it in doesnt get that much natural light.

ProRankTracker 01-21-2008 09:51 AM

Depends on

Size:
> 37" = Plasma
< 37" = LCD

Uses:
TV, DVD = Plasma
Computer, Game Console = LCD

just a punk 01-21-2008 09:51 AM

for a TV go for Plasma
to watch movies go for LCD

PowerCum 01-21-2008 09:52 AM

Why waste your money with a plasma or LCD?
Get a laser beam. Nothing better than a HD movie streaming directly to your brain :)

Forest 01-21-2008 09:56 AM

im buying a 42'' and found some real bargins on 1080p plasmas

I watch TV and movies so I would need the best for both

ProRankTracker 01-21-2008 10:00 AM

42" for TV and movies - Definitely plasma..

LCD is better for smaller sizes and for uses like connecting your PC to it or for games consoles.

Of course there are always exceptions and it all depends on your budget.

The TV/Movies thing doesn't make sense.. plasma is WAY better in every aspect (except for ghosting which it's prone to).

I had a 32" LCD for a couple of years and upgraded to a 42" plasma last year.. I'll never go back to LCD, never. The quality of plasma is awesome, especially when viewing it from angles, the image does not get washed out whatsoever

I'm of those that can't tell the difference.

Violetta 01-21-2008 10:36 AM

my gf chose by color... :)

jalami 01-21-2008 10:37 AM

I always figured LCDs last longer because they don't produce the huge furnace of heat that plasmas seem to make. My father runs an electronic parts distributor and tells me that he absolutely loves plasmas because the parts fry so often due to overheating, usually the day after the warranty expires, and he can't keep some parts on the shelf.

im going to buy an additional year warranty not matter what I buy. for the extra 180.00 its worth it as I learned from my last lcd that cost me 500.00 to fix.

I agree. So does PC Magazine. :thumbsup

Kenny B! 01-21-2008 11:05 AM

I have both and prefer my plasma to LCD, the picture is much more vibrant but the LCD is a much lighter TV and easier to mount on the wall

LCD vs. Plasma - Six things you need to know.

Cnet has a lot of stuff about this stuff. Always good to read what the experts say instead of what the gfy pseudo experts say ;)

A lot of good resources out there on the net.

i saw some amazing projectors at CES. Quality/price/size surpasses both lcd and plasma. IMHO problem is room has to be set up for it

Barefootsies 01-21-2008 12:20 PM

I have a Sony Bravia. It's dandy.

A gf's friend had a plasma, and traded in for LCD. I do not remember his reasoning, but he's the only one I knew who had a plasma.

Seems you have some very old LCD panel :2 cents: I'm pretty happy with my 42" LCD one especially if I use it to watch quality DVD's on my home theater set. The most important thing - you need a DVD player which is able to rescale DVD picture into HDV format, and course it must be connected to your panel via HDMI interface. It your player or panel don't support HDMI - just throw it into window :)

KRosh 01-21-2008 01:24 PM

If you have the budget -

Samsung 52" LCD - LNT5271F

120Hz Refresh rate - 25000:1 contrast ratio - Hands down the BEST Television on the market -

:thumbsup:2 cents:

new plasmas have a special coating to take care of that...

Cash 01-21-2008 02:17 PM

Bigger screens - plasma, plus better image in the dark or low light, better action movies and sports, better for TV
smaller screens - LCD, better for games/consoles, PC, DVDs, still photos, better image (more brightness) in light, that's why they look better in showrooms ...
