If a group has been around for like 20+ years, whats the problem with making a CD filled with their #1 songs?
On a typical album only a few songs are outstanding and the rest are so-so.

I'd hate to limit it to 5, but here's a few I'd grab:

1 - Nirvana - Nevermind
2 - Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
3 - Lotion - Nobody's Cool
4 - The Cure - Pornography
5 - Shellac - At Action Park

In some cases, like the top classic albums like "The wall" And Dark Side of the moon" etc, then I would agree with you. But when you only have 5 cd's to bring (a thing I can't imagine) you would want to nail as much of the best tunes you could.

Overrated or not, this is rock. Not 3 minutes of screaming kiddie noise. The whole "go sub-human or go home" thing is overrated.

Gwar is one of the funnest band ever! I don't think they have a great musical talent but definitely a sense of show, fun and contreversy! I went to see them in Seattle and we met the band, they are buisness but they are fun as hell!

and, for example, smoke on the water is usually #1 song on every best of DP compilation and I find most of songs from Machine Head better than that one

or they like have to put a song or two from each album
