Adult Friend Finder becomes ASACP Platinum Sponsor hold fundraiser for more donations

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Social networking site AdultFriendFinder.com has become a platinum sponsor of the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP). Through its parent company, Various, Inc., the site has also announced that it will provide $10,000 in matching grants to any other websites or individuals that wish to contribute to ASACP.

"We are very pleased to have a significant involvement with ASACP and are strong supporters of its work to help parents protect their children from exposure to inappropriate content on the Internet," said Legendary Lars, director of marketing for AdultFriendFinder and Various, Inc. "We are particularly strong advocates of the Restricted to Adults or RTA labeling program that ASACP is promoting. We believe strongly in the self-regulatory model, and RTA is a powerful tool that websites can embrace. We have long been a corporate sponsor of ASACP and are happy to elevate our involvement to the Platinum level."

Legendary Lars said that his company will match the first $10,000 in contributions received by ASACP whether made by companies or individuals. For more information on the matching grant program, visit www.gfy.com.

"ASACP is fortunate to have responsible partners such as Various, Inc. and AdultFriendFinder.com in its battle for child protection," said Joan Irvine, Executive Director of ASACP. "Their participation enables us to maintain our commitment to the struggle against child sexual abuse, and to meet the needs and expectations of our members and supporters."

The Restricted to Adults website label ASACP to better enable parental filtering, and to demonstrate the online adult industry's commitment to helping parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate content. The RTA label is free to use, voluntary, and universally available to any website that wishes to clearly and effectively label itself as being inappropriate for viewing by minors.

For more on AdultFriendFinder, go to www.friendfinderinc.com. For more on ASACP, visit www.asacp.org.

We are very supportive of the efforts of ASACP over the years and want to help children online, we have been strong advocates of labeling for almost 10 years ! The New RTA label is a good tool to use, and we support its use. We have several pages and methods for helping to protect children.

We will be doing matching funds up to $10,000 in this thread its time for GFY to step up and donate to a good cause for helping to protect children online.

RawAlex 06-11-2007 07:48 AM

Now, would this mean that AFF would take steps to get off the torrent sites that are filled with CP and other illegal, undocumented porn?

Chris 06-11-2007 07:49 AM

Awsome :)
We tried to become a sponsor a year or so back and we got told no as we are not an "adult" program

Rumbo 06-11-2007 07:55 AM

would a charity like that welcome AFF?

i mean you help men get pussy no? it might put people off if you try to mix that with helping kids

Of course it does because if they dont i am sure some folks at all the major news outlets would love to see a story of a ASACP Platinum Sponsor advertiseing on sites with cp terms :)

Nice move by the way AFF this is a good cause...

fris 06-11-2007 08:07 AM

good cause for AFF, but like they said you souldnt be paying affils that promote CP, the two dont mix, either pick one

JenniDahling 06-11-2007 08:10 AM

We are taking steps to make sure that our advertising does not appear next to any search results that end in results that woud be contrary to our goal, Our company has along history of immediately terminating sites which have content on them that we dont agree with. We also recognize that all of our current adverisers are willing to cull their search results to exclude these terms. This includes Google and Yahoo advertising as teh exact same issue crops up there.

We did pick one we are working so our advertising does not appear next to any search results like these on all sites includeing yahoo and google where you can find stuff if you search, of course if one finds this type of content it is important to report it to the site to have it removed from their indexes, obviously the search sites dont have any content on them of this nature so we are talking about advertisments next to search results, obviously we dont want to be associated with this in any way but we are not going to drop advertising on google and yahoo because their search engine picks up ugly content, it is our duty to help when found to ge tthis content removed and reported to the proper people for action, like ASACP.

I have no comment on that at this time you can try to turn a good thread ugly or you can step up to the plate and donate and we will match your donation to ASACP !!

Chris 06-11-2007 08:22 AM

I think what asacp does is WONDERFUL
but when i asked if i could donate they asked what company i was with and they found out it was an penis enlargement company i was told No ..

It's just really strange to me... I am not bashing on you at all lars but you guys take Torrent traffic .. Torrent site's that promote stealing movies, music and software .. even stealing adult content

but i sell male enhancements products and I am told no...
i guess money talks :/

Lars, your company has a long history of refering problem situations to the laywers who look and basically appear to say "if nobody has been charged, it must be legal, so we are okay with it".

At this point, I will be writing a sharply worded letter to the ASACP and their other sponsors suggesting that they should look closely at AFF and it's business choices before accepting any money from them.

This is awesome news! Come on GFY, nobody wants to contribute? Can't we put our differences aside for a day and work together for a good cause?

Monkeygunnagetchu 06-11-2007 08:50 AM

Props to Various!
As a mother of a child who surfs the net (so far under my supervision) I am VERY proud to be part of a company that is helping others to keep our children safe. As our children grow there are more dangers that they face - it's good to know that companies with such a mighty influence are helping to make sure our children can use the net for all of its many resources, yet still retain the innocence that children should retain as long as they possibly can.

Thank you Lars and Andrew!

Brujah 06-11-2007 09:04 AM

Maybe ASACP isn't such a great organization afterall. There may be better charities to donate to. Take Pirate Bay for example and click the Top 100, and look at any movie or image related category. An overwhelming number are all child model, preteen, lolita, underage, etc..

If you choose to still support sites like that, as long as your ad isn't on a page that contains one of those terms it highlights your true nature being only concerned with reducing some of your own liability and NOT AT ALL about keeping children safe.

Your funny, they support BT's that take from you also and you lick Lars ass.

StuartD 06-11-2007 09:17 AM

Wow, some of you guys are so narrow focused.

Hate them all you want, but seriously... ASACP is not your target. Take the hate out of your eyes. Donate or don't. Hate AFF or don't.

But some of you are just getting ridiculous in this thread.

scottybuzz 06-11-2007 09:22 AM

Nice to see a huge company support it for sure.

They're a good cause, you really should hate them more. You're not doing enough.

Well lets see Im shooting in FL now sweating my balls off, spending all kinds of money. At least once a week I have beg a BT to take down a whole rip of one of my sites which is surrounded by AFF ads. This isnt just about producers, every person that gets the shit free is less possible affiliate sales. Who benefits the BT and our boy Lars so now he is giving money to a charity big fucking deal.

OY 06-11-2007 09:33 AM

Major props to Andrew and Lars for this one. AFF stepped up and I commend them for this.

ASACP deserves all the help they can get as it keeps the entire industry on a clean path. Self regulation is important in an industry such as this.

Mansion Productions is already a corporate sponsor of ASACP, but since this is a fund raiser, we will pitch in an additional $500 for the cause Lars. :thumbsup

Stuart, please. People have been trying to plead with AFF to discontinue supporting questionable methods of doing business like with Zango's theft (interception) of traffic and with torrent sites that DO allow child pornography, complete siterips of adult industry sites, etc... This isn't news, and you certainly shouldn't expect them to stop now. Do you really expect cheers and praise or think that any form of courtesy is deserved?

It isn't.
