You gotta love George W.

As my name implies I am an avid outdoorsman and spend alot of time in remote parts of the US and abroad chasing things around. One of the ugliest things on earth is a clear cut in a pristine forest....especially one up in the mountains because the trees have such a short growing season it takes decades to get to any measurable height.

This year we had alot of forest fires, which, by the way, is very good and healthy for the out of doors, bad if you are a logger.

Well in response to this years forest fires, George W. has come up with a plan

http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid..._n ature_news

Cut all the fucking trees down. God help us...can I say that in light of one of the last threads?

Anal Hobbit 08-22-2002 01:36 PM

yeah im watching him live on tv now.
He's in Oregon making a speech about it live now!

He stumbled and stuttered a bit so far, and he sounded like porky pig!

The people sitting behind him tried to refrain from laughing since they were in the background on tv.

Sooooo funny.

His speech is very confusing, very general, not in depth at all.
The crown seems to be doing sympathy claps for him

I think George W. needs a visit from Ouchy the Clown ...

Now I understand why we have term limits. Almost half way through his first term. Lets pray he cant buy another.

greentea 08-22-2002 03:44 PM

Amen i agree...

Remember this president was put here by a judge and judicial system.. We all know GORE should of been in the whitehouse...

NoCarrier 08-22-2002 03:47 PM

Man, this guy was brainwashed by 1950's-60's american values from his dad or grandparents :

- Cold War (Enemies everywhere). Now it's terrorists (with a good cause, for liberty. I don't think WW3 will give us more liberty though)
- U.S. Administration with generals who want war like crack addicts.
- No fucking clues about international issues. Let's nuke the bastards.

God Bless America.

LiveDose 08-22-2002 03:47 PM

Thank God Gore's not in the white house.

Schwick 08-22-2002 03:48 PM

This guy should keep his nose away from mother nature. She has been prventing forest fires since he was a stain.

Cheshire 08-22-2002 03:48 PM

This approach would also solve our HMO fiasco don't you think?

"Doc, my hands really hurt from this arthritis. I'm needing weekly therapy for them and I'm still in such pain."

"Alright Mr. Johnson, you put your hands on the table and I'll go grab the machete."

Martin 08-22-2002 03:50 PM

Yeah he's a bright one that boy..:1orglaugh

You could do the same analysis with the rest of the world :thumbsup

"We are having international problems Mr. President"
- " Let's Nuke them."

Colin Powell : "But Sir, I don't think it's a good..."

W Bush : "Shut up bitch.. Nuke those bastards. Yeah! BABY YEAH!".

Cheshire 08-22-2002 04:20 PM

Exactly

Although, ironically, he didn't even bother to pretend to be a cowboy until he wanted to run for president.

The old homestead in Crawford goes back generations...to late 1999.

FATPad 08-22-2002 06:26 PM

I'd much rather have another beauracry setup costing billions of dollars to study the effect of forest fires on forests...

Vote Libertarian! Roads and an army!

Some people do not have a clue... and i really don't think it's Bush.

The idea of letting the timber industry cut down more trees is not a bad one if you think about the reasons behind it. No matter what you say, forest fires are not good. Controlled burns are good for the forest and the health of it, but firefighters dying and people losing their homes isn't good for anyone. His mandate is not to let the timber industry destroy the forests, it's to let them pare them down so there aren't massive destructive forest fires anymore.

Well...I have been working on web pages since 6:00 AM and it is now 8:29 PM so yes; I have better things to do.

Do you?

Pathfinder 08-22-2002 08:30 PM

Who knows more about contolling the forests, mother nature or George?

SIG357 08-22-2002 09:20 PM

BobChezule stated it very well, its common sense to manage the forests. Mother Nature created man - we are a part of the ecosystem - aren't we? In some perfect world we may not be needed but we *are* here and we *are*, most likely, not going away anytime soon. Doesn't it make sense for us to guide the forces of nature to our mutual benefit? No one likes the look of clear cut forests and I don't hear President Bush calling for this. Some will criticize him simply because they don't like the Republican party. Some made fun of Reagan (at the time I was one) but he did bring down the Soviets (most of you have no memories of what this means) but this brought stablity to a world that teetered on global annihilation.

Its natural for young people to be idealistic, this is a good thing. However, as one gains more experience, ideals must be tempered with reality.

So, clear some underbrush and save some firefighters and some homes...

Pathfinder: I respect your viewpoint but think we should act so as to protect our fellow man as well as our natural environment.

Mr.Fiction 08-22-2002 11:08 PM

It's amusing to read the posts from people who believe that Bush's plan has anything to do with forest fires. I'm guessing that Rush Limbaugh is also trying to sell this whooper. This is just another payback for the people who donate money to Bush's campaign.

Lumber companies want to cut down old growth forests, they don't give a shit about fires or underbrush or anything else. Bush gets big donations from lumber companies so he wants to find any excuse to allow them to cut down really old trees that are currently protected by state and federal laws. Cutting down a forest to save it from burining down is not a solution, it's a bad joke.

The idea that anyone at all believes Bush's "fire" story is mind blowing.

Actually I was being flippant. I think that some gardening of the forests are not out of line, but I find Republican motives, when it comes to the envirnoment, to be very suspect.

My trip to Asia begins here in Japan for an important reason. It begins here because for a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times.

-- from the transcript of Bush's remarks to the Diet of Japan. Reported by U.S. Newswire, February 19, 2002. The White House transcript amended the statement to "half a century."

But does mother nature have shares in logging companies or friends with shares?

This guy is in it for what he can get out of it.

Clinton is somewhere laughing his ass off on a daily basis.:1orglaugh

Cutting down the forests to prevent forest fires....

How about taking away America's freedoms to prevent terrorists attacks(since they hate the US's freedoms apparently)
