New here, just registered today
Hey guys. I've been lurking for a couple months now, just decided to register. Hopefully I can learn some more about the biz.
In the meantime, I'd like to put my coding skills to work doing any small jobs any of you need. If you have anything you want automated, shoot me a PM. I can do image manipulation, text manipulation, network programming, and a lot more. I'll do either one-off jobs or write a program to automate something that you need done over and over. Anyway, thanks for reading my blatant self-promotion thread :thumbsup |
Welcome and good luck around here...
|
*ahem* I just realized that PM's are disabled. Scrap that, leave a message in my thread with your contact info and I'll get back to you.

Welcome to the bored! Hope that you enjoy your time here. :)

Here's my $.02 for you - Stay away from any job where someone says something like "Need a programmer for a quick job. Should only take ten minutes."
:) Otherwise, here's a bump for ya. |

But you gotta wonder: If it's a non-programmer asking for the bid, how do they know it should take only 10 minutes? And if it's a programmer asking for the bid, why are they wasting time looking for the bid (which is longer than ten minutes) and not doing it on their own? *shrug* |

It's not too hard to calculate the quickness of a coding job. For example I could know basically what the code had to do and how to do it, just not the actual language. |
Welcome! :)

I remember reading a kind of experiment/study done on some highschool (or maybe 1st year university) students in programming classes. The researchers wrote a test of some general questions, not language specific but testing basic programming knowledge (eg int a = 5; int b = a; What is the value of b?). They tested the students on the first day of class, and again at the end of the class. They found that the scores didn't really change! Some people just understood how these kinds of things work, and very few of the ones who didn't understand at the beginning learned any more. You're probably in the group that understands. Sure, you may not know an actual programming language, but you have a decent idea of how it's done, which would let you give a decent estimate for how long work would take. On the other hand, people from the second group that just don't get it probably can't give a useful estimate. |
