Who was the greatest rock/metal guitar player of the late 80s-90s?
Who was the most influential guitar player in that genre, during that time?
Steve Via, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, or someone else? Who do you think? |
Nuno!!!!
|
Les Claypool!
|
Flea!
... |
I'd say Yngwie. Satriani (and Eddie VH for that matter) kinda sold out and lost their edge.
Randy Rhoades died too soon or I'd have put him first. |
Cliff Burton!

I'm not going to say he was the most influential, but one of my personal favorites was George Lynch. The man defined Guitar God in every sense. It was a damn shame Lynch and Don Dokken just couldn't get along.

Billy Sheehan was a good one. :thumbsup |

I liked him better with Lynch Mob. Killer band. That opening riff in Wicked Sensation is forever in my mind. |

The greatest? not easy to say. But as for late 80's and early 90's Slash was cruel, also Kirk could play a solo in those years but they are still lightyears from Satriani and Vai though

FUCK YA!!! That bone dry guitar sound on that riff, fucking incredible. Man, to this day I can remember and hum, note for note a great guitar from most of these guys. I'm going listen to Bandlands right now!!!! |

Angus Young, was probably the best live performer, but from a musical point of veiw, Joe Satriani. Yngwie, has my vote for excellent solo performance.
|
all of them!!
but cutie Stevie is my favorite |

They're really going after the industry hard :( |
Not a popular or obvious choice since I am not that much into metal or hard rock anymore, but my guitar hero and favorite musician is Bob Mould from Husker Du and Sugar.
|
My favorite was Jason Becker
|
Chuck Schuldiner
|
Slash, by a wide margin.

I will give it to G&R for being a great rock band, but I'm not sure if I would give the guitar award to Slash, though he had "rock star" down to an art. I think maybe if he was not a drunk he could have really been a much better player. |

Husker Du... wow, have not heard about them in a while. Good stuff. |
1. Slash
2. Kirk Hammett |
