Just had a guy ask me to design for a pirate DVD site

Which I wont do.

I said no. He persisted. I said no. Anyways ... what would everyone else say?

I don't want to be involved in that kind of site, even at a design stage.

Thoughts?

the Shemp 01-04-2007 12:47 PM

not into that pirate niche...

interracialtoons 01-04-2007 12:50 PM

Design the site then claim it was pirated.

Screaming 01-04-2007 12:53 PM

can i get the url?

Love cheap dvds

cardinalvices 01-04-2007 12:55 PM

Tell him to use Template Monster :)

Scottish Guy 01-04-2007 12:59 PM

why pay for pirates when you can download?

Dirty F 01-04-2007 12:59 PM

I would say yes.

Basic_man 01-04-2007 01:05 PM

Like you said, it's only in the design stage. The design isn't illegal, it's the content. If he paid good money, I would have done it.

chartgraves 01-04-2007 01:06 PM

Dang guys - I clicked on this thinking it was gonna be a site that sells pirate themed DVDs haha - I love Pirate Porn arghhhh mattey

:pimp nice decision dude! two thumbs up for you...:thumbsup:thumbsup :pimp

aico 01-04-2007 01:17 PM

Do you know him personally? You'd have to be an idiot to tell someone you don't know that you are about to do something illegal.

your willing to assist him in getting his illegal site off the ground... his site takes money out of my pocket.

that makes you an accomplice.

Twisted Dave 01-04-2007 01:29 PM

I don't know the guy and he didn't tell me it was illegal until he showed me the blurb he wanted on the site ...

DVD's that aren't even in US Theatres ... etc etc...

lol...

I know as much as the next man about DVD Rips, and Screeners, and downloading etc.... But for one, I don't do it... (limit on my net bandwidth for a start!) and secondly, I just don't wanna be involved with it.

DWB 01-04-2007 01:37 PM

I would out this fucker.

Fuck anyone who makes money off of pirated content. Online, DVD or otherwise.

RawAlex 01-04-2007 02:30 PM

Was the pirate naked XXX pirate movies or just regular Johnny Depp pirate movies?

I'm confused.

DirtyDanza 01-04-2007 02:33 PM

business is business.. you have to leave your heart and feelings at the door in business... budwiser still sells beer even though dui deaths are at an all time high... I think you saying no to design a site is bad business on your part.. but as a business owner you have the right to choose what you design and what you do not design... just like wal mart.. they chose not to sell FHM mag and STUFF mag but they still sell guns that kill so tell me.. what is right and what is wrong...

flashfire 01-04-2007 02:35 PM

I would have to be hurtin

riddler 01-04-2007 02:47 PM

you sure its not just a nFO site? type of site that tells the new releases to the scene? like nforce.nl?

Buying guns is legal in the USA .... but buying pirated movies is illegal. Is it wise for me to have my name, Twisted Illustration, associated with an illegal DVD site? I think it's completely different.

I don't think it was bad business. Sure, if you wanna earn a quick buck, doing jobs like this is fine. But I think the Twisted Illustration name means something and I have long term plans that extend far beyond the adult webmaster clients list ...

But your view proves that people would happily do this kind of thing. So it's interesting to say the least.

No, the ad was for selling DVD's

spanky_bottoms 01-04-2007 03:27 PM

I would also have to say no way. Pirated DVD's also takes money out of MY pocket and anyone else's who takes the time to make videos and work hard to market and sell them.

Lazy fucks like that don't deserve help from anyone and should be taken out back and shot.

Just my two cents worth.

madawgz 01-04-2007 03:43 PM

you think your sponsor webair will host the site?
it is a big deal

donkevlar 01-04-2007 03:59 PM

HAHAHA! You people have your morals twisted in every direction. It's hard for me to believe that people in the porn industry are such pussy law abiding petunia muffins.

You work in an industry flooded with criminals, drugs, prostitution etc and when it comes to pirating movies you turn into law abiding snitches. Pffft.

I will speak for myself when I say it has nothing to do with abiding by the law, it's simply a matter of decency in an industry that has none.

If you are someone like me who makes a living from selling my personal videos, then it's not real cool when someone steals them and makes the same money while I do all the work.

Save your self righteousness -- if it were your videos you would be pissed too.

lazycash 01-04-2007 04:36 PM

I would find another very popular pirated dvd site. Rip it and then quickly make an exact template. Agree to do the site and in one hour deliver the ripped template. What's he going to say at that point, "hey you stole this design from that other site" Just say there's nothing wrong with stealing someone else's work and demand payment. :1orglaugh

CyberHustler 01-04-2007 04:41 PM

some of these fools that say go ahead and design it are the ones who will start a thread about how you're fucked up for being involved in such a site...

wrong. budweiser is not illegal in the US.. piracy is :winkwink:

abusing the consumption of alcohol and breaking the law by driving drunk is the person's choice and idiocy... has nothing to do with 'business is business' or any way buweiser's fault

however, affiliating yourself with someone/company that is doing shady shit, then its a tough decision on which route to take... i say fuck em.. there is plenty of work out there

:thumbsup

lucky1 01-04-2007 04:50 PM

I am pretty disappointed by some of the responses in this thread.
I think some people would have responded differently if someone had asked you to do a design for a site that was pirating their content.

What you did was a good thing.
Few people in this industry can see past the quick money and make good decisions. That is why this industry is filled with people who lie cheat and steal.

Now if he had bought you a drink at a show then of course you should have done the design. Otherwise you would not be considered a top not guy by the scumbags of the industry.:winkwink:

chris_joseph 01-04-2007 05:01 PM

lol... he asked me too to design his site.

here's the texts he want to appear on his pirated DVD site:
Quote:

"UNRELEASED STILL-IN-THEATER MOVIES - AVAILABLE NOW ON DVD"
"PERFECT QUALITY SOUND AND PICTURE - SAME AS ANY OTHER DVD"
"CHEAPER THAN THE COST OF ONE MOVIE TICKET - EXCLUSIVE VIEWING"
"PROMPT DISCRETE DELIVERY - OFFSHORE OWNED & OPERATED"
"WATCH THE LATEST BOX OFFICE HITS IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME"
damn! :Oh crap

shekinah 01-04-2007 05:06 PM

Nice decision buddy!.:)

needlive 01-04-2007 05:45 PM

You made the right choice. It's a lot better - staying away from piracy.

Pleasurepays 01-04-2007 06:13 PM

you should always do whatever your conscience and the law will allow you to. its business. the only person that can answer the "whats the right thing to do" question in these situations is you imho.

chupacabra 01-04-2007 06:17 PM

good call on your part to turn down the job, but i'd personally be against the whole call for "outing" the guy, and not just because you'd be advertising his site to the surfers who infest gfy these days..

:2 cents:
