No Mail on Tuesday Because Ford is Dead

OK, this is a bit much. No mail on Sunday because of Christ. No mail on Monday because of New Years. And now no mail on Tuesday because a Republican president who wasn't even elected and did precious little for this country kicked the bucket? I really wonder if Clinton died, if Bush would stop the mail to honor him.

You're absolutely right. It had everything to do with the fact that he was a Republican, and that he "wasn't even elected." If he'd been a Democrat who won by a landslide, the mail would surely flow freely! King Bush the Evil strikes AGAIN! Oh noes! Woe is me, woe is you, woe is my left toe!

Read about Ford's Presidency, how much he gave up personally to hold the country together and avoid a lengthy Nixon trial. You'll be surprised .. or maybe you won't be, from what I've seen in the past.

No checks either.

I have a closing that day - are the banks closed too? I guess I need to call my lawyer at home tomorrow. I am NOT getting up early Tues. unless I absolutely have to!

Spunky 12-29-2006 11:11 PM

One day wont kill you

Monique Niccole 12-29-2006 11:12 PM

Stock markets (NASDAQ and NYSE) are closed too. They do it every time a US president dies.

Lame.

Sunday is bad enough. No mail because... Jesus? Because God rested on the 7th day?

That is what presidents day is for. To honor past presidents.

Fuck all that. The US Postal Service needs to run every day.

I really don't care that a selfish, worthless, petty, and obviously ignorant leftist pornographer is "inconvenienced" by a national day of mourning for President Gerry Ford.

I wonder if anyone at all will care when you croak?

It's already happened. :thumbsup Some of us old folks remember it.

Hell, where I live, they used to drive a train through town and toss the mail bag out and you tried to toss one back to them on their way back through. I seriously doubt daily delivery was an option :)

Even now we live in such a rough road area the mail for our entire subdivision is delivered at the front gate. I've gone days (weeks?) w/o checking it.

BitAudioVideo 12-30-2006 08:51 AM

wednesday will suck ass for postal workers. imagine the pile of mail they will walk into.

Esp. since they haven't caught up from Christmas yet. I still have some eBay stuff that was mailed from OK to LA before Christmas that still hasn't been delivered, now they go pull this bullshit so my customer can wait another 10 days or whatever.

No, the Christmas and New Years is pretty much just one big fucking do-nothing holiday. Between parties, shopping and seeing family. If I owned a business that employed people in the flesh by the hour, I would just lay them all off for six weeks starting the first week of December since all they would be doing is surfing the net looking for Christmas presents or planning holiday bashes while I paid them.

What do you thing drug the FBI to my front door in 2001? Because I advocated killing Bush in an editorial that I got published in our local paper and of course posted online.

No, I wasn't. But I have heard about and they want to do it again, which very well may be possible due to a bill that son of a bitch just signed, H.R. 1607. That little bill does alot more than just "reform" the postal system, too.

Probably not. Which is just as well. Maybe people will do something useful with their money instead of buying dead plants and throwing them on my grave.

pocketkangaroo 12-30-2006 05:37 PM

It's called respect for a US President. Is it so bad that this country has traditions like this to show respect to former leaders? Is not getting mail on one day of the year the end of the world as you know it?

I don't think it'd be a bad thing to cut out Saturday delivery if it means keeping prices down. Most businesses are closed and there isn't much you can do on a Saturday with your mail anyways (can't cash checks, etc). If it means paying less for postage, I'd be for it.

CC 12-30-2006 05:43 PM

Damn, I just want my Netflix.

Peaches 01-01-2007 11:00 AM

Well, my closing has been postponed :(

Thankfully I JUST got in a Netflix full 4 DVD order :)

Where the fuck do you live that you cant cash checks on Saturday? Hell, I can cash them at the stores on Sunday, but most banks have at least one branch thats open for a little bit on Saturday. And a few banks have branches inside Wal-Marts and stuff that are even open on Sundays.

And it wont keep postage prices down. They just want to cut that day out of the work week and then in a couple of years later they'll have some other crisis that they'll claim justifies a rate increase. And now that Bush put a new law in that provides even less oversight on rate increases, they'd have no problem getting it through.

What they need to do is close some of the unneeded branch offices. There are two post offices in this tiny little town of Norman, OK (Suburb of OKC) alone and that doesn't even count the post offices in stores and such. It takes a whole 15 min to drive from one end of this town to the other, it doesn't need two fucking post offices. This same story is repeated all across the country, post offices way out in the middle of nowhere when there is one in the next bigger town over less than 15 min away. And people always like to bitch about the drive, well, thats what happens when you decided to live in the middle of nowhere, you have to drive a little ways to town to go do stuff. If you don't like that, move to the city or shut the fuck up.

Also, the post office needs to be forced to stop sponsoring stuff like Tour de France and wasting money on TV advertising. You don't see the welfare office advertising on TV, thats because everyone knows its there. The same applies with the post office. There is only one way to send a letter in this country and even the dumbest of us know where to go and how to do it.

Peaches 01-01-2007 09:49 PM

I receive and pay so many bills online that mail really isn't even important any more. My mailbox is a mile away and there are times when I go a week w/o checking it. Magazines and the newspaper (both which are online, but I just like reading them) and cards/letters from friends are the only things important anymore.

We actually have trash cans around our mailboxes (living on a mountain it would take the mail guy all day just to do our neighborhood plus 1/3 the people don't live here full time so we have a cluster of boxes at the main gate) and they are always packed with junk mail. I got a restuarant menu from a Chinese restaurant 1/2 an hour away!!!

Hold on... MY MAIL, has nothing to do with respecting the president. If you want to respect someone, fly the flags and 1/2 mast, shut the entire country down for a day, give him a day on Fox News AND CNN... but my mail? That is the postal service's weak attempt at showing respect.

If you want to show respect for a dead president, put his face on currency for fucks sake, but leave my mail alone. :321GFY

Again, where do you live (or what bank do you tolerate) that pulls this bullshit? I don't play the "posts next business day" game. When I had bank accounts, I have been known to go right into the branch manager's office and scream my head off over something like that and if we didn't end up seeing eye to eye, I'd close the account.

I assure you that if Clinton or Carter died, they would get the same respect. Now just because you are not familiar with the Ford presidency and what he did in his short time in office doesn't mean he didn't do anything.

Right or wrong he made a number of historical decisions while in office. Like the Nixon pardon (prolly smart as it put the country past all the shit that was to follow). He knew he'd take it in the shorts on that.

Withdrawing troops and as many South Vietnamese as possible to end the Vietnam war is another Ford move.

Read this (all of it) and then comment. http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/gf38.html

So you also believe that mail should be delivered on all the major national holidays too? I mean showing respect for people who have fought for our country (Memorial Day) has nothing to do with the mail. Neither does the day we got our independence. Thanksgiving has nothing to do with mail and Christmas certainly doesn't either.

Come to think of it, nothing we do as a society has anything to do with showing respect for someone. Next time they ask for a moment of silence before a game, we should all scream. We should take a leak during the national anthem. I can go on and on with things that can be an inconvenience to our society that we do out of respect.

The USPS is part of our government, when federal offices are closed, they typically do the same.
