How to stop the bots from winning on GFY contest threads

There has been a lot of posting contests in GFY lately and it is becoming clear that in some of them most winners are bots.

Now, I understand that the sponsors son't want to accuse anyone of being a bot for fear of being unfair but if only the bots keep winning soon no one else will want to play the contests and they will eventually end.

I had a very simple idea that would stop the bots from winning without any direct supervision from the sponsor.

Lets say there's a prize at post X, at post X-20 (or X-15, X-10, whatever) the sponsors have their own bot post a very simple question and the prize will only be won if the correct answer is posted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Example:

There's a prize for post #200
At post #180 the sponsors post the following:
Quote:

What's the color of the car in the pic below?

http://daystarvisions.com/Docs/Tuts/Comp/Fig3b.jpg
The prize will be won by the first person that posts "blue" at or after post #200.

Has bots can't come up with the answers only real people will win and the contest will become fair again.

Meaning more fun for the posters and better exposure to the sponsors.

GFY just needs to implement CAPTCHAs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha) on 50x (50,100,150,200) posts..

problem solved.

madawgz 10-31-2006 01:06 AM

Kill the bots :thumbsup

Brujah 10-31-2006 01:16 AM

They know who the bots are. Why not just DO SOMETHING about them instead? Make them "miserable users"

fatal attraction 10-31-2006 01:17 AM

I haven't really noticed bot's winning

MasterSEO 10-31-2006 01:17 AM

:)

da man 10-31-2006 01:41 AM

I agree that something should be done in this matter

k0nr4d 10-31-2006 01:44 AM

Its a bad idea because you're just making post bots more accessible. The CATCHA thing is a bad idea too though, as it would take too damned long to post.

However, you should do this...
When you are creating a thread, be able to mark it a contest similar to how you can mark it a poll. Have only threads flagged as contests use captcha...
Probably gonna be a bitch to implement with the whole quickpost thing, though

munki 10-31-2006 01:47 AM

But... but.... bots are already bad juju on the board...

<shocked look>No one's "really" using bots... are they?</shocked look>

chucky27 10-31-2006 01:48 AM

pornpf69 10-31-2006 04:03 AM

he-fox 10-31-2006 05:18 AM

stop these gfy contests for surfers

marko13 10-31-2006 05:31 AM

let's kill the bots.....

ImLost 10-31-2006 05:48 AM

nice idea

cool1 10-31-2006 05:57 AM

good idea
another way would be to keep the winning post numbers a secret until the contest is over.
that way, the only way to have any chance at winning would be to post all the posts you are allowed in the time you are allowed.
it would stop the bots from winning and would also stop the sniping that goes on.
And everyone would have a chance at winning.

Pete-KT 10-31-2006 05:57 AM

so far the bots havnt won the two contests we have going on

Dirty F 10-31-2006 05:58 AM

How about these stupid surfer contests stop completely???

selena 10-31-2006 06:04 AM

I think I have made less than 10 posts total in contest threads since I joined.

I'm not an overall fan of them. :)

spideriux 10-31-2006 06:08 AM

Nicky 10-31-2006 06:15 AM

worst idea ever.
1. captchas suck
2. captchas will slow down GFY even more

u-Bob 10-31-2006 06:48 AM

How about sponsors just require people to send x number of sales before they can claim their cash prizes? That way the sponsor actualy gains something from the thread and surfers won't complain all the time about bots winning prizes.

tranza 10-31-2006 07:16 AM

Cool idea...
