    This NoCarrier BS is getting under my skin

    This absurd auction should be ended. I'm going to stick my head out there and raise my voice, though I know it will likely get cut off by the left wing nutters on here. But I'm speaking for many. I'm sure many participants in the auction would not want to donate money or sig space to this cause now that it's become a farce. Yet how will they look if they back out now? Classic bait-and-switch. Allow me to quote my other post.

I could understand if you had to go to the US for treatment, but contrary to popular belief, we have very competent doctors in Canada. I myself have donated over $5000 to Sick Kids in Toronto since 2000.

              I'm with you. Donating (as much as possible) because a kid needs very expensive surgery in another country asap is one thing but getting 20k+ while the surgery is covered by insurance is insane.

              I totally understand how he needs money but is that up to us to pay for it? This is not about an insanely priced surgery anymore! This is stuff you try to fix with your family, friends, banks, etc.

              Something we all have or had to do at one point in our life. At least most of us.

                  Expenses arent covered, he faces a huge medical bill and cant pay it. Id beg 24/7 and sell my left nut if I had to for my own kid.

                  Id love to see you in a situation like that and get a judgement like this.

                                      I have not been keeping up with any of this, but as a side note, if you don't have the best insurance in the world for your child and some money put away for disasters, you should rethink your priorities. Your family is all that should matter. Prepare for the worst.

                                      NoCarrier is very lucky that he does have this community to help him, whatever the money may help him with. No need to hate on him. People can make up their own mind if they want to help or not.

                                      I wish him and his family the best of luck with all of this.

                                          Not to take NC's side... but, I know if my child was in the same situation, I'd be in serious trouble.
                                          In an ideal world, everyone would have savings and insurance to cover not working for an indefinite amount of time, but this is far from a perfect world.

                                          Should we all be prepared for such an eventuality? Of course. Is it always possible? Definitely not.

                                          The fact of the matter is that in todays society, either you have money or you don't. In between is hard to come by. You are born with debt, and only encouraged to increase that over time.

                                          Even someone who does very well to avoid debt still isn't guaranteed to be able to save enough to be out of work for months at a time.

                                          So no, it's not the ideal situation. No, he shouldn't need help in such a difficult time. But he does.

                                          You'd have done it differently, good for you. Many would have. But his situation is that of many many parents all over the country, the continent.. the world. You're in Toronto?? Pay a visit to the sick kids hospital and ask the parents you find there how many were prepared to spend a year or more in the hospital without an income. I'd be impressed if you find very many.

                                          So tell you what... you save up, so you don't need my help. In the meantime, don't tell me what I can and can't do for those who do need my help.

                                          If his child is sick and he needs my help, no matter what he *should have done*, then let me choose whether I will or won't help.

                                                      My only reservation is that he jumped the gun a little by posting right away that he needed thousands upon thousand of dollars to get little Samuel treated. Now it seems its gonna be done for free. Thats great, I'm glad the kid is gonna be ok. I couldn't imagine being in that situation, although I don't have kids, I still would never wish this upon anyone.

                                                      I agree with both sides of the arguement in some respect. Nocarrier borrowed $25K from a bank. I would have thought that might be enough to see his family through a difficult time.

                                                      I seriously wish him and his family all the best tho. If people still want to donate out of the goodness of their hearts who are you or anyone else for that matter to say differently?

                                                          Right now you are donating for stuff like travel expenses, nocarriers wife stopping with her work and nocarrier working less. This is not up to us to pay for!

                                                          People get all emo because a kid is involved and "what would you do if your kid was in this situation" yes Bob, like you i would give my left nut and my right nut too but this kid is gonne get all the help he needs already!!!

                                                          Stop thinking with your emotions for a minute start thinking rational. This is not about the kits health anymore!!!

                                                              uhuh I know - thats how it turned out, cause job doesnt pay when he leaves. Most of us here who work 24/7 on adult keep getting money through signups etc so it will affect less.

Many people face hardships in their lives. In fact, most people do. I do not see the urgent need for you to receive >$16000 in charity. I hate to call this a bait-and-switch but that's what it seems like. I could understand if you had to go to the US for treatment, but contrary to popular belief, we have very competent doctors in Canada. I myself have donated over $5000 to Sick Kids in Toronto since 2000.

My heart goes out to NC and his son, but if your medical expenses are covered fully and you are financially strapped, then you should ask relatives and friends. Not go on a board and say my son has a brain tumor which will be fully covered by insurance, but I need money to live.

                                                                                                                                                                                              I have been in a similar situation and my parents and family helped me out greatly fortunately. I think it is in poor taste to ask strangers to pay for your living expenses and try to mask it as paying for a surgery that is fully covered.

Your emotions are taking over just like 99% of the people in this thread. I would do anything in my power if something happened to (my future) son, even beg on messageboards. I'm not saying that is wrong!!!!. What is wrong is that he is getting money for stuff that he should fix on his own in my opinion. Read and think damnit. It isnt that hard.

                                                                                                                                                                                                  Yes, i would ask for donations if i couldnt pay for my sons surgery, ofcourse. Hell no i would ask for donations for expenses like traveling costs etc. I would go to the bank and get a loan or contact family or whatever.
