I'd like look at the positive side of high fuel prices. Economic reality dictates that when oil is too expensive, it's alternatives become more attractive. Once there's enough critical mass and economies of scale, we MIGHT be on the road to less and less fossil fuel demand. If we choose correctly, we might be using cleaner, more renewable energy.

I'm working on a new renewable fuel powered engine. It runs on fat. I'll never have to buy fuel again.

notabook 07-14-2006 04:59 PM

Uh... pay it? What the fuck do you expect fat ass Americans to do, WALK? Take public transportation? Invent their way out of a problem rather than starting a few more illegal wars for future oil reserves? What?

Very well said. Not to mention people will just consume less. More bikes, public transportation, and car pools.

deniska 07-14-2006 06:43 PM

its not so bad to get 10-15/mpg its just annoying that you have to go back to the pump every 200 miles

The Demon 07-14-2006 06:44 PM

I'm going to siphon gas of course!

shahab6 07-14-2006 06:45 PM

And yet people continue to buy big trucks and big cars (myself included). We are so self-destructive ;)

It already costs 7-8 here. Stop whining! :1orglaugh

General Cocksworthy 07-14-2006 07:21 PM

I'm gonna start blowing up gas stations.

xclusive 07-14-2006 07:50 PM

Stay at home like I usually do, I don't drive enough for it to really matter.

czarina 07-14-2006 07:52 PM

cut my veins?

seriously, I have no idea. A while back I wanted to buy a motorcycle or even one of those cute scooters (there is not much traffic in my area), but now I have a baby and that's not an option anymore.

tony286 07-14-2006 07:55 PM

I think sales will drop bad if it goes to $4-5 a gallon.

pack 07-14-2006 08:03 PM

I'll feel even more smug for giving up the auto-life a year ago and moving to a transit hub area in seattle =)

20+ electric/hybrid bus routes within a few blocks.

Buy another H2! Those arabs don't run me....I'll show them.....I'll drive my gas hog back and forth from my cardboard box on the corner before I go down!

biftek 07-14-2006 11:15 PM

i don't think the increase in fuel/oil price will bring down the cost of alternatives , it will send demand up , while the old thing of demand brings down price, we are now in a stage where money wins out , as long as ppl are willing to pay for alternatives prices will stay stable

you then have the other factor of alternatives still need oil to develop the product eg: it takes more resources to creat a solar panel then what you save

anyway getting back to the question , i don't use my car all that often , my other job at the radio station is just a short distance away so able to use a push bike to get to it , and there is a bus stop right across the road from me and shops too ,

Walking and public transportation dont work in most of the US you dumb fuck. Our states are a big as most countries. Most couldn't even get to work in less than an hour by bus.

TheJimmy 07-14-2006 11:27 PM

I will continue to work at home, only drive when I want to go to LA or SF or on other fun longer road trips to Vancouver or wherever...

and in general not give a shit...

Gas has been that high in the EU for ever, I'm sure we'll figure out how to adapt...

:pimp

PS: Glad this is the 'have an energy plan' administration, seems to be working out well for them so far...that first four years they did grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat and now we get to reap the rewards...yipppeeeeeee

BLish 07-14-2006 11:38 PM

there was a show on Top Gear (Discovery Channel carried it for a couple of months) and the guy had a Volvo diesel V8, i think it was. someone told him the thing could go either 600 or 800 miles on a tank of gas... i'm leaning more towards 800... it's been a while since i've seen the episode. so he tested it. drove the car without heat, without the cruise control and did not accelerate fast any so as not to waste fuel, and sure enough... he made it from beginning to end (once again, i think it was 800 miles.. but i cannot remember), on one tank of fuel! it was quite impressive. and it was indeed a V8 engine! i do remember that much correctly.

many people actually travel from PA thru NJ int ny just to work in nyc My sister travels 3 hours in and 3 hours home. Many of our states have more income than most countries.

Maybe she makes a lot and its worth it, but most people will not do that because its simply not worth it. Also, that's NYC. It's a huge city with tons of public transportation. Here we only have regular buses and people can easily work 30-45 minutes away by car. That means the bus ride is ridiculously long.

3 hours in and 3 hours out. That is insane. That means you probably have no life if you have a regular work schedule.

Dagwolf 07-14-2006 11:53 PM

I'll convert my car to run on Tequila.

BV 07-14-2006 11:54 PM

I bought a Honda Ruckus a few weeks ago.
