Do you actually click sigs in Drama threads?

Everyone's familiar with the drama threads here. Subject ranges from whine and cheese borefests to hypocritical call out contests ('you're a sig whore, no you're a sig whore) or spam accusations aimed at taking out the competition to just general random personal attacks. These generate a lot of pageviews ... but do they generate clicks? I'm asking because this seems to be the recent trend around here. I know business and helpful threads sink like a rock but are there alternatives to 'marketing' than the usual crap?

buddyjuf 01-07-2006 04:50 AM

I never have

I think I have clicked on someone else's sig like... twice in my life

Mr. Marks 01-07-2006 05:00 AM

This is not against you bdjuf (re your recent issues with splitinfinity) but directed towards many GFY 'personalities' who make a career of spouting negativity, insults, ethugging, and all sorts of bullshit. If someone is paying for your sig space, shouldn't you be providing more value to your ad sponsor by diversifying your posts and posting styles?

DamageX 01-07-2006 05:04 AM

Anyone saying "See sig" automatically loses my interest for their sig. If they want me to even consider clicking it, then they'd better give me a much more worthwhile reason to. Sigwhores are vermin. They bring down the value of a great board and waste everyone's time.

gangbangjoe 01-07-2006 05:05 AM

yes

mine all the time because it rocks

everybody click my sig please

Mr. Marks 01-07-2006 05:07 AM

There's a difference between sigwhores and aggressive sigwhores. The former just participate in threads like 90% of the other dudes sporting sigs. It's the latter I'm worried about. Trying to distance themselves from other posters, they try to 'spice' shit up by ethugging, bullshit call outs, etc. Bullying and stupidity... wow, nice new marketing concept there :Oh crap

More Booze 01-07-2006 05:09 AM

Its not about the clicks, its all about the position in the thread. Its worth as much as the postcount. Ice Ice Baby

It's ultimately the responsability and/or interest of the board owners to make a judgement call on whether this is beneficial to the board or not.

Board members' actions can also speak highly, if those actions include stopping frequenting the board, or coming around less often.

But, as I said, it's not my board and as an individual member I may not grasp the whole picture of whether or not these sigwhores add any value to its overall profitabilty.

i think in my visits here and in my time of joining i have only clicked on one or 2 sigs , the amount of posts with ' see sig " click sig "sig spot " just pissed off that i used preference to blokc all signatures

SomeCreep 01-07-2006 05:35 AM

No one clicks a sig whore's sig. People will type in the site just so that the sig whore doesnt get credit. That is the way of things.

Tempest 01-07-2006 05:53 AM

I never click on a sig if it has a ref attached to it.. I'll cut and paste it without the ref link if I have some interest in the company. Doesn't matter if it's a "drama" thread or not.. If it's a company I might have an interest in, I'll visit it.

DWB 01-07-2006 05:59 AM

I think a good sig is a good sig no matter where you see it.

If it were not for the sig clicks I get from GFY, I can assure you that I would not waste a single minute of my time here.

Violetta 01-07-2006 06:55 AM

I clicked a sig that looked like this once:
. <- this small enough?

:1orglaugh
Still cracks me up...

loverboy 01-07-2006 07:06 AM

not even once, i think no one pays attention to sigs anymore
sad bad true

What the fuck kind of statement is that Tempest? You are not willing to give a webmaster his due credit for possibly introducing you to a new product ot service? That's fucking ridiculous.

I NEVER sign up to an affiliate program without signing up under someone else. Why not share the money with other webmasters? Fucking one of the most idiotic statements made on GFY in a while. Tempest must be a surfer :glugglug

mikeyddddd 01-07-2006 07:15 AM

Tell someone not to do something and they'll do it every time. So, don't even think about clicking my sig. None of them. Not a single one. Don't fucken do it!

Does it bother you that someone might be making money from a ref?

Minte 01-07-2006 09:03 AM

No,I haven't

mikeyddddd 01-07-2006 09:08 AM

Do blind links still work?

Furious_Male 01-07-2006 09:09 AM

Those are the only sigs I click. Those that ask in drama threads.

Doctor Dre 01-07-2006 09:14 AM

Sigs for big compagny are mostly about branding nowdays

sumphatpimp 01-07-2006 09:20 AM

why in the fuck would I want to do that?
as long as I have read this board and others I have never clicked any any of the advertising or the sigs.
its just not what I came here for.

Donners 01-07-2006 09:25 AM

Sigs disabled, simple as that

I have some work I need done... Will you do it for free? :winkwink:

The only time I've ever cut off the ref code when signing up for a program is in the case of someone constantly spamming my e-mail

In a perfect world, webmasters would always click someone's referral link and give the other webmaster credit for introducing them to a new product or sponsor. But in actuality, I'd say about 85% or more of webmasters will purposely not give the other webmaster credit. Why? Because they dont want to help their competition, especially without getting anything in return. People dont like to come out and say it though, because it makes them look like a dick.

IF I use a ref code it will be one from someone I know, not some idiot who spams the boards just to get refs... Also, if you think that some shady sponsors don't shave refered WMs a bit more in order to make those payouts then you're an idiot. I want to maximize MY income and won't take the chance.

No. Why should my work benifit someone I don't even know? If a person is relying on ref revenue to pay their bills then they should be doing something else.

The people who post sigs with ref codes aren't actually doing any work (unless they're simply a ref whore). They're hoping to pick up some extra cash. It's simply not the same thing. And again.. Why should I help someone I don't even know and take the chance that the program shaves a little harder in order to pay out that extra ref revenue... Jeez.. some people really do deserve to be ripped off for being so stupid.

Actually, in mainstream that is a multi-million dollar industry called Multi-Level Marketing (MLM).

Mr. Marks 01-07-2006 11:00 PM

What if SIGs were banned here, would you still post or even visit?

Yngwie 01-07-2006 11:04 PM

I don't even click sigs in regular threads lol

Persignup Dustin 01-07-2006 11:05 PM

Drama rocks...but perhaps I should start clicking more sigs...
