No More Easy Entry For Americans, Canadians, & Mexicans
WASHINGTON - Americans will need passports to re-enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, Panama and Bermuda by 2008, part of a tightening of U.S. border controls in an era of terrorist threat, three administration officials said Tuesday.
Similarly, Canadians will also have to present a passport to enter the United States, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Canadians have been the only foreigners allowed to enter the United States with just a driver's license. That's going to be a real hassle for a lot of folks that live and do business on the borders. Also the tourism industry will take a hit no doubt. |
Sucks for them.
|
I need to renew my passport then.
|
interesting...very interesting.
|
it's about time they did something

It just shows another clear example of the governments agenda for the future and its all about tracking obviously. Another invasive thing now they want to be able to use the black boxes in people's car for insurance data purposes in legal cases. Most people aren't even aware that new cars have these devices built in and are recording everything. |
i usally only use my birth certificate. i really need a passport
|
will they take epassporte?
yeah dad joke..I know...sorry. |
get out now, start your empire elsewhere!
ill be right here |
i thought the black box just recorded a few seconds (ok maybe bit more then few seconds)

If so I might just consider returning home!!! |
I usually travel with a passport no mess no fuss :2 cents:
|

|

I always carry a passport as well as driver license (I need to get a copy of my birth certificate as well) just in case I lose one, I can still travel home on the other. Having lost my passport in the airport in Chicago on a trip to St Maarten once, it's very frustrating the hoops they will make you jump through to travel without one. My son's only 14 and he's had a passport for 4 years now. It's very easy and very worth it to get. |
Nothing to worry about, 15 years from now all the Americans will be given one of those electronic tracking thingies that are used on the prisoners today (whatever they're called).
|
sucks to be you.
Im sure this will be popular for another few years until bush is gone then things will relax |
patriot act?
Like traffic going to rosarito or ensenada was'nt bad already |

A Canadian, an American and a Mexican are sitting in a bar in Rome having a talk when God approaches them, they offer to buy him a beer. God, being the friendly alcoholic he is, decides to sit down and have a drink with them, for their generousity, god promises to grant them each a wish.
The Mexican goes first "I've had enough of work, let me win the lottery" God hands him the winning ticket to the next days lottery. The American boastfully says "I've had enough of these foreigners ruining my country, I want a great big wall surrounding my wonderful country!" God says fair enough and grants him his wish. The American is then sent back to his Texas ranch. The Canadian thinks for a second and then asks "this wall around the USA...tell me about it" God replies "it's 50 metres high, 10 metres thick, nothing can get in or out and goes all the way around America" The Canadian begins laughing "Fill it with water!" |

Just build the wall and be done with it.

They don't request the passport to re-enter in the USA? I tought they were doing it..
|
I cross the US Border with Mexico on a regular basis, and it will make a major problem. It is bad enough that the lines will reach 4 and 6 hours, and that is with the majority of the people like myself just presenting a driverslicense. But having to present a passport is a whole other thing. They will have to scan the passport to make sure that it is real, and that takes time. If you add only 1 more minute to each person that is already at leat three, the lines will not be at the 8 to 11 hour mark.

Now if they can just hire 20,000 more border patrol agents.... |
The really sad thing is, that in the last 6 years they Homeland Security agency has spent 40billion dollars, and has done nothing to secure the borders of the US. And the last people that came in the the US and blew something up did not cross the mexican or Canadian borders. They flew into NY and MIami.
|
If they really want to secure the borders of the US, they need to remove the borders. There will be a flood for a few weeks comming in, and then once they realize that the streets are NOT paved in gold, they will go back.
|
YES YES YES!
But you shouldn't stop there! Afterall I can order a really good fake passport on the internet! The United States security is at risk!. Close the borders.. NOW. Keep Canadiens out.. Hell they only let the terrorists in anyway. Keep Mexicans out... They steal all the jobs. You need a wall! A great big fucking wall! Hell you need a giant dome! Order all americans around the world to return to the United States. I am Canadienne but I'm really supportive of the build a giant maximum security dome around America philosophy!!! It's good for America and for the world. |
Meh.. passport's okay, as long as they don't implant RFID chips in my head.... :)
Or any sort of GPS locator... |
I saw that this morning and found it hilarious. A large percentage of Bush voters really want something to be done about illegal immigration from Mexico, and how do they "strengthen the boarders"? By putting more restrictions on American citizens.
KRL's right, this is just the beginning. This has nothing to do with terrorism or illegal immigration. Get ready for the national ID card. Quote:

actually it should speed things up... much easier to scan in a passport to check authenticity, than looking at a crumpled piece of paper and a state id... and a passport is not an invasion of privacy or "big brother" watching you.. jeez.. get a grip |

I've thought for years they should build a USA dome. It's got my vote! |
