Lensman - when are you going to take that anoying thing down?

that movie thing is wasting a LOT of my time and annoying people in my office to the point where I can't surf GFY.

in fact sound banners in general - WHY? I dont' get it - you will make the same WITH OR WITHOUT THEM - so WHY do them? WHY WHY WHY?

Your programs are great, you could have done the movie without the sound and had the same exposure.

Please have some respect for the people who surf and use GFY - having sound banners LIMITS the amout of people who can surf the site or limits WHEN and WHERE they can surf it. It's short term thinking and not long term traffic thinking.

I'm starting to think you secretly hate everyone on GFY and this is some kind of revenge....

Relish XXX 02-09-2005 10:41 AM

I would say it will be removed when he has another 1000 affiliates pushing the site!

I like it. I think it is nice that you have to mouse over it to make it load. Unlike a lot of other sites that popup those type ads and you they don't give you a "x" close link.

GiantGnome 02-09-2005 10:44 AM

i have only hit it once. its not a problem for me.

what kind of moron are you? Alone in your mommy's basement i guess where no one is around you.

and it's not the movie i'm against it's the SOUND. anyone with people around them gets in TROUBLE with any of these auto SOUND advertisements. They make people hesitant to surf GFY and in the long run will HURT the traffic on the site.

i may be wrong, but im going to assume that if lens didnt allow audio banners, he wouldnt have as many advertisers.

i think with the amount of advertisers here now, its almost mandatory to have some "stand out" - and by standing out, I do mean audio...

its logical at least.

other high traffic sites don't see the need to use audio. When was the last time you saw worldsex or the hun use audio banners?

Lens can get away with it cause he has no real comptation, but pissing off surfers too much will create compitation.

yes sleazy, but as you said about advertisers... "where are they gonna go?"

same can be said about posters here... "where you gonna go?"

people have complained about banners since day 1. and now that the gfy search is back someone can dig up my post saying, "you people might as well stop complaining now, this only marks the beginning of audio banners on gfy." - i knew from day 1 it was going to become more and more... am i the only Hegel reader ? ;)

audio banners blow, so i agree with you, but what we think doesnt matter in this picture.

there is a point where if you don't respect the people that use your site they will go somewhere else.

Alex From San Diego 02-09-2005 11:07 AM

I'm sure he is doing great sales with that advertising since 90% of the visitors here are surfers looking for porn.....LOL

I'm on GFY constantly and have only seen the ad twice. Once by accident and the 2nd time because I wanted to. :winkwink:

.

BradShaw 02-09-2005 11:12 AM

Would make more sense to make it cookie based so each person would only have to see it once.

I disagree, repectfully of course.

Two problems exist with sound banners, in my opinion:

1) Marketing saturation. They have worn through the original shock value and luster. In fact, I am now trained to immediately react and shut down GFY whenever sound cuts off my iTunes. Thing is, I can't tell you whose banner it is that plays the rap song, not sure who it is that has the message from god, nor do I know who that screaming one is from. I don't have a clue as to whose programs they are. Fact.

I am fully aware that I may not well represent the masses.

2) They interupt my music. Personal thing.

I doubt any advertiser would cancel GFY because of a no sound policy. Other boards have a no sound policy and their boards are growing with advertisers. GFY is huge, people want to be here, it is not a tough sell. It does not have to come with a free "waffle maker in addition to for $19.95."

I make banners without sound. In fact, I made a post the other day as to who even looks at Flash around here anymore because I am pretty much lost on whether I can do it or not anymore. I want people to see our banners, but I am not going to compete in a bad, over-saturated, sound marketing campaign to do it. I actually consider those people surfing the board. I have never even produced a banner with nudity.

Hey, that is just my opinion, nothing against the sound programs. Whatever works. Basic business logic.

Cory W 02-09-2005 11:18 AM

I have never seen the movie ad. I use Safari?

I assume it is only an IE deal....
